Helmet suggestion
should i wear one or not? j/k.
in all seriousness ive heard some helmets arent very aerodynamic and whistle in the wind. i figure a certain amount of drag and whistling is inevitable at speed(which i dont plan on going crazy with for a bit as im a total newb) but does anyone have any suggestions on full face brands or models that work particularly well? also not prone to fogging easily would be a definite plus. i understand that there are liquid solutions you can get to help with fogging but thought having something that is ventilated well/fog resistant for starters would be best. i have roughly $300 to spend on a helmet and have been looking at icon & shoei brands/models.
so far these are my two picks: Icon
Mainframe Skull Fusion
the design is a bit on the the morbid side but its in the price range, enjoy styling, matte finish, and specifications seem good. Shoei
RF-1000 Diabolic 1 Helmet
definitely on the high side of what i wanted to spend but as ill only be covering anything after $300 i figure it may perhaps still be a good investment not to mention doesnt have the death theme.
Check out the Scorpion EXO-700. I am very happy with mine, it is very comfortable, I have about 20 hours riding time on it and even in humidity, and heavy rain I got no fog, the vents are amazing, at speed I can feel the wind on my face but it is not distracting or in my eyes, and best of all it is cheap for a composit helmet.

Yea I just picked up one of these and I'm happy with it.
I've got about 500 hours (rough guesstimate) on mine now and still love it. I've now scratched the shit out of the face shield and wore off all the antifog stuff, but it worked well when it was new. It is fairly loud, but I put a Windjammer on it with good results (great for the winter too) and of course earplugs. Good ventilation, good visor system which feels heavy duty, and good against birds.
Once you do that, you'll have a good working knowledge of what makes a helmet good and what to watch out for. You'll find out that a good hat doesn't have to cost a month's pay. From that point on, your main concern is how much you like the fit and finish.
Just FYI, I've owned several top end helmsts and most of them have wind noise after a while. You either get used to it or get ear plugs. As for fogging, I've ridden in some pretty inclement weather -I'm from Seattle so that means I have been rained on more than a little- and I will tell you that most helmets have fog issues if you are out in the weather long enough. I don't care for the breath guard thingies so I just run the visor cracked a little and its OK.
To Jeepcomma, buy some Meguiar's plastic polish and work on your face shield. I've used it for years and it is amazing. It really takes out some pretty nasty scratches. It beats buying a new sheild every few months.

EVERYONE has this helmet it seems like. I rode up to a stoplight in San Diego once, and two other guys pulled up next to me... and we all had the same helmet!!! I bought it when it first came out, now i don't really even want to wear it cuz i see it EVERYWHERE! if you don't mind that i think it's an awesome helmet.
