New Rider ForumsJust joining the motorcyclist hobbie? Looking to get some information about a first bike? Or have some newbie questions. Are you new to the website?
so i was going down the freeway and realized the wind stinging at my neck. between my helmet and my jacket, my neck is completely exposed. does your neck ever get used to it? or do you wear something to cover your neck when you know you'll be traveling at freeway speeds for an extended period of time?
what kind of jacket are you wearing? If you're wearing a jacket specifically designed for riders, the collar should be snug around your neck but not tight so that the wind won't hurt you.

i'm pretty use to it, but if it bothers you, go to underarmour, they have this bacalava (sp?) thing that helps. i wear it to keep me warm, but i'm sure that it'll help with the wind too.

sounds like your jacket may be a bit too big for you. I agree with the under armor thing, they usually help out a lot. I prefer the long sleeved ones with a bit of a collar (like an ultra mini turtle neck). They also make just wind blockers for your neck, just looks like someone cut off the bottom of a small tshirt.

thanks for the responses. i'm not having any issues with wind getting into my jacket from the neck area--there's just nothing to flip up or zip up to cover my neck. this was not something that i had considered when buying my jacket. but then again, most of these riding jackets don't have high collars...
i was just trying to get an idea for what other people do. my neck is the only place where i have skin exposed. if it's something that you can get used to, that's the best (and cheapest!) option for me.
my riding jackets have a mini mandarin collar just like yours, but I've never really had a problem with the wind on my neck. Hope you get use to it, the wind is a beautiful thing.

get a proper riding jacket...my Technic mesh jacket has a proper collar. And in the position that we sportbikes ride in, your helmet should be deflecting the wind as well.
+1 on the Balaclava. Not only will the longer one protect your neck from the wind, it will also protect the lining of your helmet from the oils in your skin and hair, keeping it cleaner. Since it's more easily washable than the lining of your helmet, it will also allow you to always have clean material against your face, which is more pleasant than having it rub against a nasty helmet liner.
I wear mine almost all the time, in every kind of weather.
Load of bollocks posted regarding jackets ... a jacket is never going to protect your neck from wind ... what you need is a 'buff' ..its a slightly elasticated neck warmer made from light material and it does exactly what you want ... ie. protects the neck from wind and insects etc..good bit of kit and very cheap.

Descriptions: Buffs are completely seam free making them comfortable to wear - there are no pressure points.
Made from a elasticated microfibre, Buffs are wind resistant and suitable for both hot & cold weather conditions.
They are highly versatile and can be formed into a bandana, sun-guard, thermal scarf, beanie, foulard, balaclava, headband, scrunchie, wristband, helmet-liner, muffler
I use a fleece neckwrap, makes a huge difference in riding comfort on those cold days. I've never experienced wind 'sting' - maybe I haven't gone fast enough yet lol
