Default Need feedback on which cycle to ride!!

Hello all, I am currently looking at either a Yamaha FZ6 or a Vstrom 650 or a 1000. I like the vtwin engine and am alittle concerned about the fz6. I have owned a 250 rebel in the 80's and a 650 vstar classic in the 98's-2004. .I was wanting more power after riding the vstar for a long time so I would like upgrade to the 1000 area. Please post your thought and opinions. I will mostly do onroad stuff but would like a windscreen and fairing protection. Which bikes are the most reliable? I have enjoyed both my rebel and my classic. I dont like the bent over riding (crotch rocket style of bike) dont get me wrong, fun for a while but I get sore. I have rode a 750 Katana and some crazy 1100 thing that just wanted to pull whellies the whole time and a nighthawk. all in all I like the upright seating position and would like some info on the two bikes above and any suggestions to ones I havent seen. budget of 6000.00 also. Thanks

It seems that you've been riding cruisers. I would move up to the 1000 on a cruiser, but not on a sports bike as the sheer power(acceleration) difference is pronominal.

Do you think the word "bombastic" would be applicable? (Sorry, studying for GMATs).

J/K Sounds like a typing error I'd make when trying to spell phenomenal.

Grandiloquent is another GMAT word.

IIRC, Bombastic is a word you use to talk about someone who's purposefully trying to use big words, but isn't using them correctly.

IE: "I need to get better at being copious, and learn to deal with the fact that my neighbors play loud music until 3 AM, and my coworkers never hand their share of the work off to me in time." would be a bombastic statement. Copious means "plentiful", not "able to cope."

Default Bike info please

If you have anything helpful to say then say it. If not then please dont waste my time. I am really trying to get some opinions of riders and what they think, not the adolescent ramblings of a 21 year old who needs a life. Bike info great. If not please dont bother. I forsee another lame comment from you but I ask you to refrain. ( I do think your well educated. good luck in life) Bike info only please

Sorry 'bout that. I thought you were OK with the tangent.

I would suggest making another post in one of the main forums. You've obviously had a fair amount of experience with bikes, and most of the people here are normally used to recommending bikes with less than 600 ccs for newer folks.

OP, you said in your first post that you were concerned about the FZ6. Wanna tell us what you are concerned about? This may give us insight into what you are looking for in a bike. I currently own a 2006 FZ6 and couldn't be happier with it. Good power, nice riding position, great display, great gas mileage (47-52 personally), the list goes on.

Default fz6 concerns

I dont have any experiance with this bike and it engine, I can only compare it to the nighthawk I rode about 10 years ago. That was not to fun due to the bike was old. I am concerned with the lower end torque and having to always ride around in the 8000-and higher power band. My vtwin experiance is a good one and I just need some download of what it is like to cruise on a fz6 in town/traffic/corners/highway, that sort. and if any one has any info on other bikes of the situp type that would be excellent. do you have any rider clubs in Benica? thanks for the post!!!http://forums.sportbikes.net/forums/...lies/boink.gif

The sesquipedalian 1200 is a great beginner's bike.

Seriously, save yourself having to get a 600 sport bike 6-12 months later because an EX500...or a 500 anything is boring for the average rider after some time in the saddle.

If I can get a 2003-2004 ZX-10 pretty quick...I might be selling my CBR 600.

And yeah...some pro racer would smoke my ass on a Ninja 250 vs. my F2...but not everyone is after becoming a track day star or local pro racer.

For the average, above average twisty riding guy...a 250 is silly small...and will bore them to tears the first time they hit the redline and the thing won't even top 100 mph.

I find that for normal driving around town, 4-5k rpm is perfectly fine with plenty of power to pull away from whatever you need to. The bike truly comes alive around 8k rpm, but mind you this is more power than most people will ever need. Most reviews I have read have quoted the wheel hp to be around 90hp, which is pretty damn respectible.

In terms of durability, think about it this way. It basically is an R6 engine that was de-tuned a bit to give better low end grunt. This means the engine is extremely over built for the purpose in the FZ6. Many guys on this forum have well over 50,000 miles on their FZ6 with absolutely no problems whatsoever. I would read up on the FZ6 forum, it is extremely active and you will get a lot of answers there. The FZ6 was also reviewed in the July 2007 Rider Magazine, so go pick up a copy of that for some good 'ole toilet reading.

There are a ton of bikers in the Bay Area, so it is easy to make new friends up here and find people to ride with. I personally have a group of about 8-10 people that I ride with every Sunday morning into Napa and up to Lake Berryesa for breakfast and a lap around the lake. Some great twisties there and good visibility.
