I get my first bike today.
Hey guys!
After years and years in the dirt, i'm finally ready to commit to learning the street. Left it a few years because I wanted to learn a bit of how traffic works(knowledge which terrifies me as a future motorcyclist), but today's the first day I will throw my leg over and ride. I've been fantasizing about this since I was a kid
Went through the course, and the weather is finally good enough to ride here.
It feels so damn good.

And there is so much STUFF to get, too.... I have to be careful I don't end up "blinging out" the 250.

Youtube vid coming soon....
Got it home perfectly last night, myself and 2 friends took it off the truck and put it in it's new home!
I hadn't driven either the 250 or the 600 yet, just the riding canadian equivalent of MSF course bikes, so I threw on my gear and took the 250 out... it was much faster than I thought it would be. Really fun, but didn't feel like IT was riding ME. The sun was getting low in the sky, and as I drove down the highway it was like I was in a different WORLD. The feeling of freedom and companionship between myself and the bike made me rediculously happy.
Before the sun had set and with alot of rationalizing, I decided that i'd "carefully" take the 600RR for a drive on the highway. I thought the 250 was fast....the 600RR, unlike the 250, felt like it was riding me, not the other way around. The speed was incredible and really fun, but the gravity of being able to accellerate like that was also pretty heavy. I understand what guys mean about being able to become a better rider faster on a 250 now.. you're concentrating more on -riding- the bike. It was still an amazing feeling as I rode home on that red/black 600RR, but it demonstrated how even though with alot of dirt time i'm just not ready to appreciate and control a bike like that.
It's funny how the emotions the two bikes give me differ so greatly. I walk into the garage, and the bikes sit side by side, staring at me. The 250 seems to almost smile warmly at me, like a new friend I know I'll have some great times with and never lose(I'll never sell it, liter bikes in the future or not). The 600, on the other hand, stares at me with a predatory grin as if challenging me.
I'm sitting at work writing this, can't wait to get home so I can go ride all night.

Be smart here. Sell your 600 and ride the 250 for a year or two. Take classes and learn properly.
You're going to convince yourself that you know what you need to know to ride the 600 effectively.
This is a bad idea to have and when many people get themselves in huge trouble. In other words, a sweet spot for fatal accidents.

Well, to answer one concern i've already taken a 21-hour course(4 classroom the rest riding) and understand the basics of controlling a bike.
As for the other, I know many people get themselves in trouble riding a 600, which is why it's not something I have any desire or plans to ride this summer. The only reason I took it for a ride last night was to see the difference, and only down an empty stretch of highway. It's going to stay in the back of the shop certainly for this season and possibly some of the next, no if's ands or buts. I don't see a point to riding a 600 just because it's fast if I can't ride it properly and take advantage of that speed in a positive way. I know I won't be able to do that for a while.

That's all well and good, but the temptation will be there to ride the bigger bike.
Statisticallly speaking, you'll want to get rid of the 600 within two years (buying habits of North American riders according to market research) so, get some cash, learn to ride for an extended time and save your money.
When you're ready to step up from an experience level, you'll be able to buy a bike you want at the time and have the prerequisite knowledge to get more out of it.
