What an awesome weekend for riding. I put about 300 miles on my bike cruising all over the DFW area with some friends. Some hilights / things I learned:
- On Saturday I hit the 1000 total miles ridden mark. Woo hoo!
- My friends and I found a great communication system for cheap. We bought little walkie-talkies that are supposed to have a 14 mile range as well as these kits for them that have helmet speakers and microphone and a push-to-talk button designed to go on your handlebars. The sound quality was good enough to use and two radios and two helmet kits were about $100, way cheaper than a Chatterbox.
- I had my first run-in with a car. I got bumped from behind in one of those right-turn-yield turn thingies. The lady behind me came up to a stop behind me, then apparently thought I had gone already and slowly came up and bumped me because she was looking for oncoming traffic. No damage to the bike other than a bent-in plastic fender that I bent back.
- I wish my handlebar risers had come in on Friday instead of today. My back got SORE. It was fairly windy all weekend, so I had to spend a lot of time tucked down a bit and holding myself up with my legs so I could keep my arms as loose as possible.
- My next upgrade on my bike is probably going to be a Corbin seat. My butt gets pretty tired after about 40 miles.
- I'm a natural born pesticide. I killed so many bugs this weekend I'm probably public enemy #1 in the bug world. In a related note, I need to keep a little bottle of face shield cleaner somewhere on my bike. I've got one of those microfiber cloths that I keep in a jacket pocket, but it just wasn't cutting it by itself after a trip down a country road after dark.
- Starbucks people are silly. I stopped for a break last night and bought some coffee. I'm at the register--helmet sitting on the counter--and the girl asked me if I wanted to buy a coffee maker.
