My first bike & it's 20 below freezing :(
You know.. as prepared as i felt I was to purchase a bike during the off season, there is one thing I never really considered. If the seller is motivated by the cold to let their bike go at a bit of a discount, then it's gonna be a bit cold for me to ride it the day I buy it as well.
Now try to make the part of your brain understand that little fact after you've got the bike sitting in your garage and you are recreating the civil war inside yoru own head over whether or not 5 degrees fahrenheit is really too cold or wether you can get in ten minutes on your new bike before the cold really hits you.
I'm here to say that just as everyone one of you would have done... I rode my new bike the very day (night in this case) that I bought it. Despite it being almost 30 degrees below freezing I put on a couple miles and while I have no feeling in my extremities an hour after coming inside... it was impossible to resist.
I'll see about getting some pictures up in the morning, I just had to give a big thanks out to all on this forum who have passed on such great information which I was able to use when preparing for my purchase.
It's not new, but it's new to me. I'm all kinds of excited about the 1999 zx7r sitting down in my garage right now... feels a bit like christmas.
EDIT: Pictures finally added.

I'll ride as long as the snow isn't too much. Of course my commute is only about 20 minutes and goes slower than 50mph, so the lack of wind helps.
If there is fresh snow or ice, I skip taking the bike out.
Get some cold weather gear, you can extend your riding season to a full year.

Agreed. Weather.com says it's 19 degrees right now and I am NOT looking forward to this morning's commute.

Congrats on the bike, but please be careful on it. The ZX-7 is no joke and will fly.I love the looks of the ZX-7R and it's on my short list of bikes I want in my collection when I hit the lottery!LOL
My cold riding days are pretty much over. Low to mid 40s is about my limit and then only if it's sunny or warming up to the high 40's or more. I used to ride when it was cold all the time when I was younger, but I have decided that it's not much fun anymore.

Yeah, I'm at that young phase right now where I take my bike everywhere, no matter how cold it is. However, it is pushing 20 degrees this week and I'm starting to puss out. Looking for a ride to work tomorrow.
So I can see how I'm not going to bother when I get older. Especially after I get my but out of grad school, make some money and purchase my first Beema M3. Leaving th bike at home won't be so hard then.
