New Rider ForumsJust joining the motorcyclist hobbie? Looking to get some information about a first bike? Or have some newbie questions. Are you new to the website?
Someone explain how this works.. (dmv test question)
So i took the written test today...and lest just say i didnt do too good..you can miss 4 and i missed 8
But the first question was this:
Which of the following statements is correct?
press left, lean right, and go right
press left, lean left, and go right
press left, lean left, go left
if you press left on the handlebars the front wheel moves to the right?? confusing question
and i always hear you guys talking about how to not ride in the center of the lane..but this question was:
Riding in the center portion of the lane:
should be avoided if possible (my choice)
keeps other drivers from seeing you
keeps others from sharing your lane (correct choice)
oh well..im going to go retake it again tomorrow..it will be easy now that i know the correct answers...
MSF covers this, but do you need your permit to take the MSF course?
Press left, lean left, go (turn) left.
The bike intially and momentarily turns slightly to the right before leaning and turning to the left. Basic counter-steering.
Sometimes the test makes you choose from 2 answers that both seem correct. While it is usually true that the center of the lane is avoided due to oil accumulation making it slick, the last answer about avoiding lane sharing is emphasized in the handbook. While lane sharing is not illegal in CA, the handbook makes a point that you, as a rider, should do what you can to prevent a car from sharing your lane. This is not exactly the same thing as a rider purposefullly sharing a lane to move ahead of stopped or slow moving traffic. Good luck next time and study the handbook.

Never out-ride your ability to react (even stop) within the distance you can see (at least on the street).
Luchbox, in your mind you are thinking "push left wheel turns right", because you are imagining yourself pushing forward on the bar. Think in terms of pushing down on the left bar, now it will make more sense to you.
Re-read the manual if you want to pass.

As I was told in my MSF with the whole which of the 3 lanes to be in, basically there is no right answer, it's dependant on the conditions and situation you are in.
Ideally stay out of the middle cause it is full of crud, but it does give you noticablility for people wanting to take you over.
What I've noticed is that with having ridin now, there are so many obstacles and imperfections, manholes and things like that in the pavement that you'll rarely find yourself cruising in the same section of the lane when riding (unless you are in a big slab for a long time).

left left left...............
the correct answer according to the book is that you should stay in the center of your lane so that cars wont want to share lanes with you and youll be harder to "miss"
I call bullshit and I ride to the left of the lane. I want to be right in front of the driver and out of oil/antifreeze spots.
The gubnet isnt always right on this. They think practical not logical

I actually had another good excuse when I went riding on a road in the morning. I got onto a stretch and said okay looks alright let me ride the middle. Well this stretch had an elongated "buckled" section of pavement through the road.
So before I could do anything by the time I got close I noticed since all the cars drive over it, the two far thirds were flattened from being run over repeatedly and worn down, and what was in the middle... you guessed it, an untouched very RAZED part, THWACK...
Never hit that again after that...
