bike question.
First off, i just wanna say hi to the forums.
I have a question pending which motorcycle i should purchase. I'm about to go undergo my MSF course training and afterward, i'm going to borrow my friend's 250 to roll around for a month or so since he doesn't really use it.
I did have my mind set on a 600rr,however we went to a Ducati dealership today and the salesman started showing me a triumph daytona 675. Looking at the numbers, price (about the same as a 600rr) and build (it's a lot thinner than a cbr) the bike looks pretty appealing. I was wondering if anything has riden one of these and what you're input between a cbr 600rr or a daytona 675
i have 05 cbr600rr. my first bike. i love it. the only other bike ive been on is an 05 R6. i am glad i went with the 600rr. i would definatly recommend!!!
get the daytona 675.. those bikes are built solid. Not that I don't like honda..but those seem better built to me.. might be more $$$ though for service and what not

That is a WHOLE lot more bike than a 600RR that it's just downright silly to compare them.
The 675 is like a GSXR-750. It's THAT powerful. It's also very unforgiving.
Considering you're asking questions like these, you should be looking at a used 500 or an older 600.
And good luck finding a 675 for retail, anyways. Most of them go out the door for at least $2000 more than a 600RR.
But if you're going to buy a new bike, get the 600RR.
Over half the 675's sold last year have been in accidents. It's a shame, because those are really beautiful bikes. That should tell you that it's NOT a bike you can fuck around on. If you don't know what you're doing, stay away from british bikes.
Also- if you DO wreck it, parts will kill you. Trust me. I've been there. Triumph parts are very expensive and VERY hard to come by second hand.
If you're getting a bike to learn on, stick with something that has a TON of parts on ebay. You WILL need to replace things.
For the 675 to date, there have only been three front fenders, a front and rear seat, and a set of red bodywork on ebay. NOTHING else since the bike has come out. And most of it went for about what the Triumph dealer charges anyways....

i don't know about yours
but the duccati/triumph dealership is just 2 exits down from my campus.
They have 3 on sale right now. An 07 for 10,137 (after tax and all.. unbargain'd) and an 06 for 9,600 after tax. I love cbrs, no doubt about.
I know the parts and stuff are expensive, the bike looks really solid to me. Like you said, maintainace and parts are my main worries on the bike.

I've been riding for 20 years, I have a 675.
If you look at my profile, I had an RR last year.
Neither of them would be good for you. Two months experience is NOT enough.
Get some MSF training, ride a smaller bike for year or two and EVEN then, I wouldn't recommend the 675 for you.
People have been crashing the shit out of them. Experience riders.

Alright... and your point being?
Do you know how much you can get a leftover 600RR for? It's a LOT cheaper than that.
But yeah- the maintenance won't be a big deal. Parts will be, though.
I'll honestly tell you that the 600RR is a bad choice in your situation. The 675 is just downright insanity. I'd have trouble trusting MYSELF to get one, and i've been riding for quite a long time.
But i would have no worries with a 600RR. I could easily handle that. People get the idea that the 675 is just another 600cc bike for some reason. NOT true.

as for the 600rr. If i do get it, i'm def getting one used like an 04-03 because they're about the same and the price difference huge.
I"m not trying to argue or anything, I just wanted some info on how the bike performed to help me make the right choice. I didn't know much power the 675 and i thank you guys for helping me out.
I know all about starting on a bike with too much power.
I have two idiot friends who started on a ducati 999 and another one a busa (lol idiot). The 999 one is missing a foot now, but my busa friend is still riding, lol.

It's no problem, man.
We're just looking out for you. They're totally different animals. I'll still advise you to NOT start on the 600RR, but in the end you'll do what you want.
Also, make sure you get some good gear, and ride safe!!
Good luck!

Well man, two months is not enough experience. Get a 500 for a year, if you must have something bigger. Save your coin up and get something bigger when you're a better rider.

wow you got a really good deal on that.
I have to admit that starting on a 600rr is pretty dumb, but i also have a car and you i'm using the bike to get from my place to campus (i usually walk in the morning it's about 5 minutes) so i'm not gonna ride it hard, most of the time it'll be at like 20 mph. It's just on weekends when a couple friends get together, i wanna have something to ride along with
