Default Gotta post it, jeez...

Well, I took the bike out to the main driveway of my house to start it up and go up and down the street. Haven't started it up in about a week now. So I take it out of my room, walk it down the driveway and face the street. Put on jacket, helmet, and gloves. Put the key in, turn, choke on and thumb the starter, warm up for about 3 mins... Kick into first and... dead.. WTF. Back into Neutral, thumb starter, kick to first and it dies...
Repeat this process about 7 times...
Look down, wow, if it isn't the kickstand...
I walked the bike out of my room, down a ramp, down a 30 ft driveway and didn't even notice the kickstand engaged.. Talk about a newb mistake... Coulda swore I took the kickstand down at SOME point in time. Oh well, live and learn..

I've done that before, but I've driven away with it down. Apparently my bike doesn't have the safety switch that works on the kickstand. It is quite interesting when I go to turn left and the stand starts dragging. I just kick it up while still moving and ride away hoping no-one else saw me. Also one time this girl asked me if I was going to put my kickstand up before a rode away (I was already moving); I kicked it up and left

Could be worse, you could have had to deal with the old Ducati's kickstands that dissapeared from time to time. (They auto-retracted)

I actually liked the old ducati's kickstands. Surprisingly nothing bad ever happened to my duc's w/the auto-retracting kickstands.

I did this the first day I got my current bike. I got home and put a few things in the house and then tried to leave again but the bike died every time I shifted into gear. I tried at least 5 times and started thinking I'd bought a bike with a clutch that didn't want to disengage. I found it odd though that the bike didn't lunge forward at all. (When I accidentally kicked one of my dirt bikes into gear once - without even holding on to the handlebars - I nearly fell backwards off the seat as it plowed into a nearby wall.) I started looking it over and noticed the kickstand was still down. That's when I learned about the convenient safety switches on modern bikes. It hasn't happened again yet, but I'm sure it will some time, and I'll immediately know why.

My very best day ever on a bike was when I managed to run the battery dead trying to start it with the kill switch "on". Then i successfully push started the machine by rolling down a hill. Once on the bottom of the hill I parked the bike in a parking lot to warm up and promplty killed the motor by putting the kickstand down while it was in gear. That was a lot of fun.

Done this a couple of times too. When I was looking at my D6 in the showroom I had flicked the kill switch to off and walked around it a couple of times...tried to scroll through the digital speedo and the damn thing was blank. Figured the bike might be defective (little did I know it was the operator) then realized the kill switch was on.....and imagine my surprise when I thumbed it on and the FI processed and the speedo lit up.

^^^ Yeah, no shit - 20 years of experience and I tried leaning the bike over onto the stand last night only to find out it wasn't fully engaged. Tank god there was a fence nearby and the only thing that happend was the mirror got knocked out of adjustment. Surprised the shit out of me.
