Year bought first street bike: 1998

Type of bikes owned: HD Sportster 1200 (first bike and last HD), 98 ZX7R, 98 Superhawk, 03 ZX6R

Certifications/Classes Etc: Current drivers licenses

General Experience: Have worked full time at a motorcycle shop off and on since 99' (I have been either full time or part time for the same dealer since 99). So I have ridden almost every sort of bike out there. Still have yet to ride the current GSXR-1000 or any ZX-10, but that will happen this year. And with all the different bikes I also have lots of different tire and other add on experience. Have a couple of trackdays under my belt (last one resulting in a broken collar bone). Maybe I should mention that I know how to spell check before I post too?

Year bought first street bike: 1990

Type of bikes owned (in order): 1986 Ninja 900R > 1991 ZX-11 > 1993 Honda F2 > 1996 GSXR 750 > 1999 GSXR 600 > 2002 GSXR 750

Other recreational vehicle experience (alot of each): 3 & 4 wheeled ATV's, Stand-up and sit-down style Jetski's, Snowmobiles

Certifications/Classes Etc: Motorcycle street license 1990-current, Learning Curves new racer licensing school 1995, CCS Licensed Amateur regional roadracer 1996-1997, CCS Licensed Expert regional roadracer 1998-current, Vision Sports Racer University advanced racers school 2005

General Experience: Started riding a slow automatic 3-wheeler in late grade school and progressed up to fast 3 & 4 wheelers with clutches very quickly, I still ocasionally ride 4-wheelers currently. At 20 years old, without any previous motorcycle experience of any type, I bought my '86 900R sportbike used. After a year I bought my ZX-11 new and rode that on the street till I sold it in the late 90's. I took the new racer licensing school on my '93 F2 at the end of '95, started Amateur road racing in '96 on a brand new '96 GSXR 750, and became an Expert going into the '98 season. My 1st year as an Expert I started the season by finishing top 5 at my 1st event and was in the Top 10 constantly from that point on with my best finishes being 2nd places, but admittedly I have never won a race! I have only raced GSXR's over my 10 years of racing, hence my screen name. I have only dropped a bike once on the street (only scraped 1 fairing - not an accident in my opinion) at a very slow speed due to a bad set of variables all coming together at once, this was in '99 in my 10th year of riding on the street. I have crashed 4 times while racing, 3 times were due to being forced off the track by other riders, and once because I was using a front tire that was well beyond needing replacement. My only injuries (other than bumps and bruises) have been a lightly sprained wrist and ankle and I partially tore my shoulder when I crashed because of the bad tire. I have been driving cars/trucks on the street for 20 years and have NEVER had an accident, even though I log alot of miles every year. I stopped riding my own motorcycles on the street when I sold my ZX-11 in the late 90's, any riding on the street since then has been very rare and generally on my brothers '98 900RR or to put some miles on a brand new race bike before racing, but usually less than 100 miles. In 2005 I had the opportunity to work on the M4 Suzuki AMA Pro roadracing team as a wrench during the Daytona event, this was a great experience and involved alot of work for the entire week. Most recently I have been interested in mentoring people looking to get on the track themselves, especially if they look to race.

Age: Old enought to know better, young enough to do it anyways (mid 30's ;) )

Year bought first bike: In 1985 bought a Suzuki 185 TS (Enduro started streetriding in 1987 )

Types of bike owned: Suzuki 185 TS, Yamaha Special II, 98 Katana 600, 99 Kawasaki zx9r.
I rode 19,000 km in 2004 (in 5 months), 17,000 km in 2005 (in 8 months).

Class: Full unrestricted bike license since 1987

General experience: I ride alot, ride twisties and commute as well. I don't track due to lack of interest, I enjoy getting somewhere. I've crashed once one the road, countless times dirtbiking. The road one was in 1987, a dog ran into my front tire (the dog was fine, thanks ;) ).
The people I ride with have the same attitude: Slow in the straights, fast in the corners. They all ride open class bikes and several enjoy spending time on the track and the street.
I believe that you can always keep learning, as such I try to get a few different viewpoints each year. At the time of this writing that means I'm reading "Ride Hard, Ride Smart".

Riding experience/Certs: None. Attended MSF course which made me comfortable enough to get back in the seat after 8 years. Wrecked my first bike and hung up my leathers for a while. I'm a daily commuter, weekend 1/4 miler and backroads twister. I prefer to ride alone or in groups of 5 or less. I don't dig large cruises. I ride in the #1 state for killing motorcyclists. I've been down once (very softly) due not knowing the road I was on. I've had a few close encounters but nothing that what I learned in MSF didn't quickly resolve.

I only speak from my own personal experiences and general logic when I offer my opinion regarding riding a motorcycle.

Street riding experience:

I purchased my first sportbike (97 yzf750) in May of 2000. I rode that for three years pryer to my return to school and finances required its departure. In August of 05 I found my 02 CBR954 and have put about 3000 miles on it since. In the Summer of 06 on my trip to Laguna Seca MotoGP I hit a deer and totaled the 954. I have replaced it with the Factory and have really enjoy the new ride. V-twins rock! Total street miles are about 18k or so. I perform all the maintenance and repairs on my bikes usually and find that one of the more fufilling aspects fo riding.

Dirtbikes owned: 1985 XR80, 1986 CR125R, 1989 CR250R, 1998 KX125, 1999 KX250, 2001 CR250R

Dirt riding experience:

I started riding on two wheels at the age of 12 on a XR80. In 97 purchased the 98 KX125 and started practicing to race motocross. I raced with the local AMX tracks for about three years on and off. Since I've been in school I have not been able to race but plan on returning post graduation.

I have the M endorsement on my license.

Year bought first bike: 1994
Types of bike owned: First bike 1993 CBR F2. Currentl 03 Kawkker ZX-9

Class: Ohio MC endorsement for going on 1 year.

General experience: Bought by 93 CBR as a brand new left over. Trailered it home and self-taught myself. Managed to drop it (more like 'set it down') in my driveway and scratch it up a tiny bit. Spent 5 years riding (~18K miles) and hanging out with the other squiddies. Never got my MC endorsement during that time - just kept getting a permit. This was in the days before the Internet boom and forums like this, so I simply didn't know better.

Sold that bike in 99 and was out of riding until 2005 when I got my new leftover 03 ZX-9. This time I was much smarter and the internet was around. Signed up and completed the MSF in April 05 1 week after getting the bike. I actually rode the bike very little until I completed the MSF so I wouldn't relearn bad habits. I'm not the best rider, but I have read a lot of books to help my understand what I should be doing and I frequent the forums. I do have a decent amount of experience in traffic on both 4 and 2 wheels, so my advice is more along the lines of 'stuff to look out for on the street'.

Guess I'll be the first to admit my newb status in my advice.

Handle: bzbatl [that's bzb ATL, as in "busy bee in Atlanta", something to do with the hive, 311, georgia tech, always being busy]

Age: 28

Year bought first bike: 2005

Bikes owned: 2006 Ducati SuperSport 800, soon to be a 199x Honda F3 or a 200x Ninja 250

Licensing: Passed written test with 95%. Picked up bike that day. Passed driving portion for full motorcycle endorsement two weeks later with a 30-something score (no idea what the score is based on).

Planning on taking MSF with wife when we finally get her the F3 (her choice) or the 250 (my choice).

Met Kevin Schwantz two weeks ago and am planning on attending his racing school with father-in-law when time agrees with both of us.

General experience:

Currently at ~3,000 miles on the Duc and have been putting about 300-500 on her per week since February 2006.

Rode various dirtbikes (whichever I had access to, only one that was "mine" was... I wanna say late 70's Honda 80cc dirtbike. Tiny little thing.) for about 6 years in the deserts of Southern California. Of course, I was 14 at the oldest point.

General knowledge:

I'm a sponge. I've read TOTW 1 and 2, Proficient Motorcycling and the sequel, and currently reading Sportriding Techniques. I've gotten subs to 4 bike mags, and read this site religiously. I've watched numerous videos, and constantly have something sportbike-related playing on the second screen at work.

I have a bit of an expendable income, so I love new toys (read: gear) to go with my bike. I love to try out new stuff and either ebay, craigslist, or sell to buddies if I don't like the gear.

Gear is my current crack.

General Experience: Approximately 50,000 total miles ridden.

Learned how to ride (operate) a bike on a CB450(year?). It was a bike of a friends father. His father was out of town for the week and out of the blue my buddy asked if I would want to use it. Ran out, got my permit and started riding. In my first few years of riding, I did a few stupid things. Didn't we all though. Had a good head on my shoulders so I never really got myself into too much trouble. Then I figured that its time to find out why bikes react the way they do. Read anything I could get my hands on about riding, think about what I just read then went out to try it. If it worked I'd think about why it worked. If it didn't, I'd figure out why it didn't until it did work.
I'm always up to learn something new (or old). 've always been the type of person that is well aware of my limits, but enjoys taking the next step of progression. Goes back to always wanting to learn. I guess thats why we're all here.
