New Rider ForumsJust joining the motorcyclist hobbie? Looking to get some information about a first bike? Or have some newbie questions. Are you new to the website?
So I approached a guy wearing gear carrying a helmet today and asked him about his bike. He tells me he has a 2001 GSX-R1000 that he just got painted the S2000 Suzuka Blue color. It's a very good looking bike and the tires are scrubbed all the way to the edges BTW. I asked him how long he has been riding and he tells me he just got back into it after an 8 year absense and he used to have a 600 and a 750 I think. So about 1.5 months ago he bought the 1000 and says 600's are too slow and advised me to start on at least a 750 and a 1000 would be acceptable. I told him about how people on SBN seem to advise against even starting on a SS 600 and then he told me about how they are too slow and meant for girls because they are generally smaller and girls are shorter. Later he told me he only uses race tires because they are stickier than street tires even after the tread wears off. Just to reiterate for this guys credit, they were scrubbed all the way to the edges. I thanked him for the advice, complimented is good looking bike, and off he went.

Just thought I would share.
Hahaha. Maybe he is Rossi in disguise...or maybe he is buying race takeoffs. That's why they are scrubbed all the way to the edge.
walks around carrying gear so he can talk to chicks.. then the real owner of the bike comes along... Like that episode of Friends with Joey and the Porsche.

The act of riding is a form of meditation, because the concentration that's required to safely ride a motorcycle tends to focus the mind in a way that eliminates other mental distractions that might interfere with the mission. This creates a single-mindedness that, in effect, displaces the continuous stream of thoughts that normally flow through our consciousness.

what a joke... i wish i could get someone to say things like that to me well if i was still in my 20's i would keep a 600 the whole time cause of insurance reasons, you can still make them as fast as anything else. when you do start off and never rode any bike, dirt bike, you should start on a 600.
ill have to wait untill the bike shops in my area get some new salesmen so i can act like i never rode and see what he says to me...
