Its my first and only bike so far...got it earlier this summer. I found it to be quite manageable from a size, weight and power standpoint. I absolutely love it and I think its one of the best values in the market. There's an FZ6 discussion board on this site that has several threads regarding this bike as a first bike...check it out.

Having ridden a 250 for several years, I'm sure you could move on to any 600 on the market. Unless you kept it in the garage alot.

Yeah, skill wise it sounds like you're gonna be ok- just get the bike that feels the most comfortable, both to sit on and to ride.

I would suggest the Triumph Speed Four...... it's sweet.

Hey Racer you think that the throttle on the SV is twitchy compared to the other 600's? I always thought that it was a little twitchy but sometimes I tell myself that I'm just not being smooth enough with it. Then other times I think to myself "nah there's no way to do that smoothly, it's just the way it is..." So what's your opinion??

To the original poster.... I haven't ridden one but I would say go with the F4i... But that's just my opinion.

I think you probably have enough basic skill to ride anything you want, if you've been putting around on a 250 for a long time now. Traffic management is more dangerous than your bike's horsepower anyway. You can still kill yourself if you use the loud handle indiscriminately, but it won't be the bike's fault.

That said, IMHO, if you have to ask, I don't think you probably need a supersport 600. You will learn much more, much more quickly on a bike like an SV650S. IMO it's a phenomenal balance between power and weight, and you can pick them up for a steal; a clean, stock, fuel injected 03 can be had for $4,000 or less. Use the money you save to buy some real gear and attend a track day or two. You WILL thank me, and you will spank the average rider on a 600 with your "girl-bike" when it's all said and done

You'll like the SV650S if you go that route, well for a while anyway. Its a quite a bit more fun than the 250 but its a pooch after 7g maybe and you can feel the torque start to drop off rapidly after 5g. But then its all what you're into I guess.

It starts to drop off rapidly after 5K? Doesn't look like that to me...

I went from having a Ninja 250 to an SV650 and I like my SV a lot. Honestly I wish it was faster but, I still have a lot of fun with it. I can still get up to 60 in about 4 seconds flat, which is plenty quick for most.

Sure I saw the same chart before I bought my first one and again before I bought my 2nd, I do like the bike don't take me totally wrong but yeah at least to me after about 5g you, I feel there's hardly any pull left,or I should say I feel it decreasing rapidly like I sprung a leak and my balls are falling out. But that fact never really bothered me, then I took it in for service a couple weeks back and the dealer let me take a gixxer 600 for a little spin around the block and ever since that day I've been looking forward to next spring and either selling my newest SVS or trading it in for the gix.

YZF600R or a Katana 600 are great bikes to step up to if you don't quite want to step up into a full 600. If you don't have that full need for speed there is no reason to. All you will do is get yourself in trouble

Yeah I haven't gotten a chance to ride a SS 600 yet and that's probably a good thing. I do kinda wanna sell my SV and get a gixxer 600 or a 636 or something of that nature. If I get a chance to ride one I'll probably be doomed and spend every dollar I have trying to get one.... which I can't be doing!!!
