New Rider ForumsJust joining the motorcyclist hobbie? Looking to get some information about a first bike? Or have some newbie questions. Are you new to the website?
hey I know this has been passed down to many forums all over but I felt I wanted to see what kind of responses I would get for better knowledge in the future. I've been into motorcycles quite some time and I've been wanting to take the MSF class so I saved up for it and took it, because I want to be smart about riding bikes not careless and unknowledged. I figured my first motorcycle riding experience would be the smart way in a safety class. I have my license now but shopping for motorcycles out there (preferrably new). I own a stick shift car (corolla) and haven had the taste of two worlds, 1.driving a slow stick shift car 2. driving a sport car NA/Turbo basically fast so I'm familiar with riding the clutch and balancing, etc. when it's normal or sport tuned and also the familiarity with a motorcycle, My wife wants me to get a bike she can ride on with me and then eventually get her own for herself (sportbike too).
I've riden my friends GSX-R600, Honda CBR600 F4i, and an 04 Ninja 636 and 05 ninja 636...loved them all they're nice for bike rides and cruising..honestly I don't want anything to do with racing just want to ride around and cruise or use it to go to work. I was looking into getting a Yamaha R6, Ninja 636, or what I really want to look into getting is the Suzuki Hayabusa...I fully understand the Busa's potential and power from what I've read...i don't have a friend that owns one so I could see what the bike is like...but I would really like to purchase the Hayabusa for a first *owned* bike not ridden..I ride my friends' bikes pretty much everyweek we hang out basically borrow in a way....I feel that I'm pretty confident in watching my safety more than getting one and showing off because I'd have my wife with me when I had my own bike to ride long enough before letting her get on with me...Sorry for the long story but here's the question...even with the confidence (feeling ready) I feel and i really don't want to buy one bike then get the one I really want later on down the years would I still be making the right decision or would I be able to manage it?
I would like to get some advice about that especially if you own a Hayabusa that would be cool! Thanks for the help...sorry so long

Aloha and Welcome to SBN
If this is really a legit question...the BUSA is a bad bad bad choice for a first bike. The time spent on the bikes you mentioned will in no way prepare you for a busa. You may feel confident in riding it but all it takes is one twist of the wrist then you'll be hooked.
I guess the Busa is just one of those super super sport bikes that prolly would make sense to avoid...Thanks for the thoughts...well atleast I ride 600s so I atleast know how those are so hopefully the dealership gets an R6 or I can get the Raven color R6...I'll definently be posting pics when I get a bike which should be this month or beginning of next
hopefully when I feel more ready later down the years they'll still have the 04-05 Busas looking nice and still around for sale...it'll be on my dream list, but I'll look into riding on something I'm more familiar and not jump on something that could get me from point a to b without me even knowing it and then screw up...I read the other forums for awhile and thought about it...it makes more sense than to do what I feel confident about. byebye busa
that's me on my bestfriends 2001 suzuki gsx-r or I guess the superman gsxr as they say...the ride quality is great..he woke me up to show me his bike he just got

Being the same age, I fully understand the desire for a Hayabusa. In the insanely fast and adrenaline charged world of sportbikes, the Hayabusa has a claim to the throne. There's nothing like knowing you have one of the baddest machines on the road. The Hayabusa is that legendary. The masses know the name Hayabusa (or Busa for some challenged with syllables). Know one thing that a bike is only as good as it's rider.
I'm not gonna knock you for starting out on a 600. There has to be a point everyday that I wish I was riding a 600. I'm sure you would enjoy riding the 600 on a consistent basis at this point instead of riding the 'Busa'. The Busa is a one of a kind machine for the moment. By the time you are ready for it, I'm sure there will be something real nasty out there and you wont want a 5 year old Busa
yeah i just don't know what it is about them, but being that I'm short and that I like the style and specs on the Hayabusa I'd really like to have one of my own...but I dunno I'm just afraid to test my confidence and responsibility for safety that I have..I don't want to try and show off I just really like the way it looks for cruising around

That was in the morning the first time he got the bike I just had my basketball shorts on and a tanktop but I'm gonna always be wearing jeans and buying a leather jacket with gloves...believe me I'm not going squid or doing shit like that...yeah sorry for sounding hypocritical but you guys have my word that I'll be alot more safe...now I found out that I'm gonna be buying this bike off of him so hopefully by thursday it'll be mine, but thanks for looking out

I'm thoroughly confused, Didnt you say that you didnt want ANYTHING to do with racing and that you just wanted a bike that you can get from point A to point B and have ur girlfriend ride on the back!?!? IF thats the case then what the hell you doing going and buying a "Gixxer". That bike was designed to race and sure isnt comfortable to carry a passanger as she'll be like 8 feet in the air leaning up over the top of you. You're too caught up in the Image man you need to rethink exactly what it is you really want. i'd suggest a Honda F2 or F3 they are good bikes and are quite comfortable for the rider and passenger
Well yeah he thought about it and wanted to sell it and get a GSX-R 750...he talked to me about it last night because he knows I was looking into getting a bike too and I was talked out of even thinking about the Hayabusa and settling into a 600cc....So we decided on me getting his bike and he goes to get his 750....I dunno why he had a change of heart but I guess it's already done now...fordyoz55 I really think you need to rethink what you just said...did you even read what I had said and do you understand what I said? .....I had said I wanted a sport bike simply for cruising around on and not racing....hell why do people get Harley's? Do they race them? not that I've seen down here in florida...people ride sportbikes down here just to cruise as well alot of times...there's no image here that I see I just like those type of bikes....just cuz I'm a newbie and rode on my friends sportbikes I should stick to a scooter or 250cc bike or buy a harley anyways? I like the Hayabusa not everyone has that bike, not everyone likes that bike..I like the way it looks but I do understand there's alot of power under the liter bike Sorry but I'm not gonna get something I don't like or decide to get rid of 2 weeks to a month later sorry if I've riden sportbikes and taken a liking to them...That's just like borrowing your buddies Subaru WRX for a month , like it, and then buy a beat up 89 Cavalier because the WRX is made to race...She actually liked riding on the bike and felt comfortable riding it too...So please understand where I'm coming from like everyone else on here before you start blindly flaming me...

I'm surprised that no one's chimed in about riding in squid mode as per the picture . (*edit* damn, I stand corrected, the crazy Alaskan said something )
First of all, a Hayabusa is a 1300cc sportbike, not a liter bike and EVERY O.G. has one . You can start on a 600 (I did), but it will kill your learning curve. I've been riding for like 12,000 miles and I am just starting to feel like things are becoming automatic, my chicken strips disappearing, etc. Riding a sportbike, especially at your age (my age too), WILL lead to showing off. I've done it, and probably still will do it sporatically. It's something we'll grow out of, if we live through it. You can play it up now as being responsible, but the fact is you were responsible on SOMEONE ELSE's bike. I drive my truck wayyyy different then I ride a bike, it's a totally different attitude. Most people I ride with are the same way. You'll see...
Bottom line, don't buy anything new, and buy some gear, A LOT of gear.
