After counting down the days I'm finally starting my MSF beginners course tonight @1800hrs and then Saturday and Sunday 0800-1700hrs. I'm excited!
I'm guessing tonight will be classroom only and then the weekend will be riding days. The only pair of boots I own that cover my ankle are my old green jungle boots with ripple sole and the course guide stated something with a flat sole is preferred. We'll see I guess, anyway I'll post a follow on how it goes if anybody cares although I have read a few threads on new riders thoughts and feelings on the course. I can't wait!
Enjoy the course. It was really fun when I took the course and one of the instructors was a stunt man for either torque or biker boyz. All the instructors were really cool and nobody failed the course except one guy who was asked to leave.

First night is classroom stuff... and I actually enjoyed that as well..
Why not go to Wal-Mart and buy some hiking boots? It would suck if they don't let you ride because of your boots... or bring your boots to class tonight and show it to the instructors.. see if it's ok..
have fun!

Good luck and have fun. They will teach you a lot if you want to learn. My guess is the boots will be OK for class, but they'll tell you that the heels could be a problem for the street.

I go Beltway blitzin' on my mad mofo musclebike WFO. Its a true choice, a god-like experience if you will. The thought that I could buy the farm in a spectacular fireball...................well, that gives me a stiffie! Tesco Vee/The Meatmen
This is the boot I have for those who don't know what the ripple sole is, would it cause a problem riding once I get my license? I'm thinking they would. I have a pair of old ass hiking boots that I'm bringing tomorrow for the range in case they are an issue. Any instructors want to chime in on them? Thanks.
So far the class is great, bunch of good people who want to ride smart, one guy said he dumped a Kawasaki 500 at 105mph and gave up riding but is looking to get back into it. Gonna be a cool morning on the range at 45 degrees but I'm too psyched to care. I'll keep this updated as I can. Without this site I never would have signed up so thanks!
WE watched a bunch of videos and the younger guy from Overhaulin who makes the prank phone calls and what not was the main guy haha kinda funny

Day 2 has come and gone, we rode for half the day and then did class room, videos and such. I ended up with a 100% on the written which was pretty much common sense with a few questions that I would have gotten wrong without the class. I love it though., this has been my first time riding a motorcycle and what a feeling! even just getting into third gear felt really cool. We are riding Honda Kighthawks and Suzuki GZ 250's. It was a little frustrating at first cause the bike I was on wouldn't go into neutral unless I shut the ignition off and pulled up on the gearshift lever and then re-start the bike. Even the instructor got on my bike and tried it and couldn't get it. I guess these bikes get pretty beat on during the years, the neutral idiot light didn't even work half the time (although I rolled the bike as well to confirm neutral)
We had one spill from a female who dropped it a low rate of speed going through the "Clutch Control" portion but she was alright.
Tomorrow we ride all day supposedly and then take the practical portion. What a great class and to all the intructors here, keep up the great work!

That's funny...the first bike I was on had the EXACT same problem. Damn thing wouldn't pop up into neutral for anything. So towards the end of the exercise I would just pull the clutch in and kill the engine. Then once it's off put it back into first. Sucks big time. The bikes are 15yrs old plus.
On the first day of riding, the guy couldn't grasp the concept of easing the clutch so he kept reving hard or something. The guy who dropped the bike twice didn't even get asked to leave.

Good thread and thanks for sharing. It is good for the newbies to see the course is actually kinda fun.
My MSF class is still a vivid and fond memory although it was six years ago.
