Post so I went to the dealership to "just look"...

....10 minutes later I was filling out paper work for the new '05 Ninja 250 I just purchased (damn these impulse buys). However, I'm quite excited now. I took the MSF and got my license in the summer of '03. At the time I was just a dealership away from buying a brand new Yamaha R6. I had gotten a chance to ride my cousin's F4i and it was a piece of cake, so I naturally thought I could handle it. Unfortunately finances with college screwed things up and I never got a bike that summer and Im glad I didn't cuz god only knows what could have happened to me as I'm not exactly the kind of guy who'll "take it easy."

I spent the next two years lusting over all the 600 repli-racers. I kept telling myelf as soon as I got enough cash for a decent downpayment I'd bet getting myself one of those things. Then, a couple of months ago, I ran into sportbikes.net and its plethora of information, and thankgoodness I did. Reading all the threads from both newbies and the experienced guys/gals were so helpful. I have finally seen the light.

So thanks everyone for contributing to such a great forum. Keep it up, cuz there's a ton of lurkers out there that rely on the useful information you provide.

I'll be getting my bike delivered next week, so I'll post pics when that happens. In the mean time here's one I got off the net.

Oh, and if you read through this entire post, good job.

That's awesome man. I'm in Delaware, not too far (10 mins from Elkton MD). You'll love riding, it's one of the best things ever. What part of MD are you in? Lots of people in the midatlantic area! Check out www.tristateriders.com. I bet you'll find some people who live near you. You can ride all day on that bad boy for 10 bucks I bet even with $2 a gallon gas prices!

Great choice! If you can figure out how to ride that bike fast, you'll be tearing the posers new a-holes when you eventually move up (you'll be doing that on the 250 too, but when you move up it'll be x100)! You'll be having LOTS of fun this year!

Learn how to ride this to it's max in the twisties and you will be smoking most others with 600's. It is much easier to go fast straight than to go fast in the twisties.

I'm in the Germantown area. I've heard that Frederick is a good place to ride, so I'm sure I'll be checking out that area eventually.

Thanks for the nice words/encouragement everyone. Basically, one day I came to the realization that I didn't know as much as I thought I did, and that learning properly would be more beneficial for my health than looking good on the streets.

As for equipment I think I have a pretty good start. I have an AGV helmet right now, but soon to be replaced by a Scorpion, a JR hard drive jacket, JR highside gloves, Icon timax pants and a pair of Oxtar TCS boots. I'm thinking of getting a pair of JR blaster perforated leather pants. Any of you guys have experience with these?

Oh, and I forgot this on my first post, but a big fat to everyone

Its such a breath of fresh air to see riders start correctly. Awesome bike for the buck. Might want to get some cheap new mirrors(stock ones are almost useless) and possibly do a bit of susspension work(not hard or expensive). Other then those few things, that little beast will do almost anything you want her too.
