What's it worth, 91 GSXR750...first street bike
1991 GSXR750 What's it worth?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looking at my picking up my first sport bike. A friend's band mate has a 91 GSXR750 for sale, 57000 km's. Tires, battery, lights etc are in good shape. Has single seat on it. Did a compression check, pretty much 125 accross the board +/- no more then 5 psi on each. It's been all painted up bright yellow, black wheels. Looks nice. Things are warming up here in Winnipeg, so I will be taking it out for a ride next couple weeks. Long range plan is to move to Victoria, head back to school and ride it all year long.
Good idea for a first bike? What's it worth? Any concerns I should have ( like how many km's are too much on a bike? Weird or stange problems with a bike like this ?) I've attached a picture for those who want to comment.
He wants $2800 obo ( Canadian) for it, wonder if it's high or not?
Thanks in advance guys

Looks like a big yellow barge on wheels Classic bike, but definatly NOT a beginner bike. What is your previous experience like? It's big, heavy, and probably too quick for a first bike.....

Well quickest bike i've ridden was likely my 98 KX500...but that was dirt.
Street was an old school Harley my friend had, but I didn't get much time on it. At 5'10, 210, I am big enough to throw the bike around some....As far as being a quick/scary bike..I am sure it would be for a while. ( Like the Artic Cat M7 I was ripping around on this winter in Revelstoke..nothing a 153" track with 140+ HP to move you up a 45 degree slope with the skis off the ground
I am more worried about buying someone's old headache I guess, and paying too much for it.

I think that would be a decent bike with your experience, not the best, but its available. I dont know exactly how muchthat is in american dollars to compare, and since Im american, Im too lazy too look it up. I think $2800 canadian is like a pack of gum USA or something like that.
I think it is decent, and it looks to be in well kept shape, just take it to a mechanic to look over if youare unsure of anything. They usually do it for a minimal fee, and it is worth the piece of mind. I think you will be fine on it if you use your head and dont go balls out on it.

If 2800 is worth about 1500 US, then it's worth it.
I sat on one a while back, heavy and very intimidating(at least at the time to a newb).

Nice looking bike, but I'd get the Armor-All or whatever the shiny stuff is off of that seat.

I like all this value of the dollar sarcasm here.
Ironic, because the value of the dollar has gone down the shitter in the past 5 years. We're in a NEW $70 trillion defecit since the war started.
I don't think it'll be long that the Canadian dollar:US dollar will be what the US dollar eso.

I would agree with big and heavy....most likely very quick.
With the $ so close, $1500 US = $1800 Canadian or so (80-85 cents Canadian on the US dollar)

i personally dont think it would make a good beginner bike, i started out on a 93gsxr600 and that was a ton of power for me(220lb guy) but thats my opinion.

Yes on a budget it looks ok to me, will likely have it checked out and get it trough a Manitoba vehicle inspection too before buying. Yes it's been repainted, likely was dumped at one time and plasics been replaced. I guess I need to do more investigation into it yet.
