My friend grabbed it. He's a Madden nut though so his first take was exactly what I expected: "It's so fucking sweet dude and it looks amazing...you gotta pick it up."

1up.com gave it an A.
IGN gave it an 8.8.
Gamespot gave it an 8.0.

I expect nothing new except some visuals. They've had the gameplay down pretty well for a while so they follow the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" line of thought. Knock it all you want (I know I do), but it certainly works for them.

I've read there are a considerable number of flaws, though. Perhaps some reviewers are being nitpicks.

^ They have to be nitpicks because it's Madden 2008 with some new graphics that took EA developers 2 weeks to write and new cover art.

My review, Powerpoint style:

- Yes, it's prettier than 08. Collinsworth is horribly annoying.

- The rewind feature is dope if you're a beginner (or relearning like me, since I hated on Madden for the last couple of years).

- The Backtrack is also good for beginners.

- They fixed the running game and the tackle detection. They broke tackle breaking - it's far too easy now.

- The My Skill feature is neat, but it seems pretty useless... so far. My Madden IQ is 540something and I'm unbeaten as the Falcs thru 4 games in Franchise mode. Yeah, that shouldn't be happening.

- The vast number of plays, packages, audibles, and in-game edits is astounding now. The game gets more and more complex every year.

BUT, they added this new stuff (I think it's new, I don't recall seeing it in 08) that is similar to the Arcade version. When you select "Beginner" you only get a set of maybe 10 plays to pick (run, pass, special). As you increase your level, you unlock more options in-game. I think that'll help newbies like me get back into the game.

- The integration with FFL seems like it'll be cool. We'll see in a few weeks.

Some things I'm interested in knowing:

1. Can RB's (or anyone carrying the ball, for that matter) still change direction on a dime? Does real-world momentum play any factor in agility?

2. Do QB's still lob deep passes woefully short or are they able to substantially lead the receiver and let him go get it-- and outrun his defender?

3. Is it still impossible to block a FG/Punt?

4. Are players still able to "fly" into position to bat down a pass, even when they shouldn't be able to?

Not really. If you gradually change the direction yes, but if you do a 180 from the current direction there's a stutter step. Right stick controls jukes.

2. Do QB's still lob deep passes woefully short or are they able to substantially lead the receiver and let him go get it-- and outrun his defender?

You control the way the QB passes. His passing skill ratings put an element of randomness in accuracy.

3. Is it still impossible to block a FG/Punt?

Never blocked a FG, ever in Madden. Only blocked a couple punts in my entire playing of any Madden. I have recovered a few onside kicks.

4. Are players still able to "fly" into position to bat down a pass, even when they shouldn't be able to?[/quote]

I don't think so... DBs get beat quite a bit. Which is true to current NFL situations due to the rules, heh.

^^ A LOT of people on the IGN and Gamespot boards were complaining about this.... pretty shitty if you ask me. There's no reason for that at this point.

EA is teh Suxxorz

Yeh dude. I sent it in once already and now I cannot send it in again. My disc drive is fubar. It takes about 10 trys to play a disc and im tired of paying for Live. Im going to PS3 because Socom should be coming out soon and that is my favorite game ever. Wont ever buy another microsoft gaming console again. First strike was my first xbox disc drive ate one of my games and Microsoft refused to replace it. So I sent it in and they sent me supposedly a "New" one and this counts as #2 and #3. ahaha

Why are you saying this if you don't have it? Yeah. it's a lot a like, but there are some new features that are pretty cool. Such as the My Skill feature, makes the game a little harder and more evenely matched than it has been in the past.

I give it two thumbs up.
