NHL 09 MMO. Anyone Gonna Get It??
Hey.
I was just reading about how the new EA NHL game is going to have basically an MMO built into it.
It's effectively a group of up to 50 people that form a "team" and then compete against other teams in 6 on 6 games. So basically, EVERY player on the ice at any one time can be played by a real person.
Teams need to have at least 3 humans to play in a game...the other 3 can be controlled by AI. If a team has more than 6 players online at a time, they can decide to play in two or more games at one time if they want to.
At the end of the season, EA is going to be giving out real prizes to the best teams and players in the EA Online League.
Sounds pretty awesome. I think I'll pick it up. If anyone else does, we should think about getting an SBN team going.

that might be worth picking up. i usually play the 2K line of nhl games, but would consider going back to EA for this

Yah, I've been passing on most of the sports titles the past few years due to them not really being any different than the last titles I bought.
But this is a major change to the way the game will be played online.

I have to say the NHL series is much better than the 2K brand.
I'll def. be picking this one up.... although I'm not sure you could get all of us to agree to which team to be on.

You don't pick a "team" that is in the NHL. You design your own team and it will have players that have custom user created names.
So we could be something like the SBN Riders and each have whatever the hell we want as our own player's name.
The "team" that you're on is like a guild in WoW or Everquest. It's not like we'd all have to try and choose to be on the Red Wings or the Kings or something.

i think its a worthy idea, but i wouldnt use the feature unless i had people on my list that would complete a team, because what happens if some kid joins and just decides he doesnt want to play and leaves the game on...?

Yeah I play NHL 08 all the time. I love it. I had COD4 sitting in the wrapper for 5 months before I even touched it because of NHL 08 & I knew how good COD4 was because I played it in Beta... soo yeah I like the game alot.

Worst damn game EVER! They didn't even try since they knew EA was going to slaughter them. Played the demo the other day and actually Laughed because it was so bad.

^ Have you played it? Ive only got to it a little bit but its different....... The checking is the most noticeable difference IMO. I keep settnig up to hip check and get nothing! Then its much harder to check someone too. The Stick poking is a bit awkward now, its seems floatly and you can't control it as well.
Feels more like European style hockey now where its all about the skating.
What I don't like is the line change set up now. I need to see if I can assign them like 08 has them default. Otherwise when you change lines u have to cycle through the list which is just a a PITA when your trying to rush it on the fly.
I've only been able to create my player and played 3 games in the AHL. Tonight, I'll probably get online and get my ass stomped.
