Default Into the Wild

Has anyone seen this? I rented it last night and fell asleep. It was pretty crappy, but I never did see how the guy died. Did he get eaten? I hope so. Please fill me in.

Default Movie...

I watched it when it was in theaters and I enjoyed it. A man disillusioned by the material pursuits of the majority of his fellow Americans describes what the movies stands for but the performances were also good. I would not call it "crap" but it's not everyone's cup of tea and he could have easily avoided his own death. Overwhelmed by the beauty and magnificence of the universe might describe the personality of the main character. Since that is a rare trait to encounter in today's world, when it is encountered, people think it's almost Christ-like. I'm not a critic, just one who enjoys films so if you didn't like it, there is nothing to be done about it. Perhaps a another "Saw" sequel might be in order? If you really want to see a good movie, watch "Bad Boys", with Sean Penn, who directed "Into The Wild". It's worth seeing just for the soda-can scene...

I just wanted to know how he died. I found out. Some idiot goes into the wild, letting his well off family who carred a great deal about him worry sick, makes it for a few months only because he got lucky and found an abandon bus to seek shelter in(he would have been dead long before that if he didn't find it) eats some poison and dies. Great. Sounds like a real "enlightend" dude.

See you at the Cains film festival

Ummm..it's Cannes film festival.

The movie was not great, but it was not horrible either. If you ever hike on the Appalachian Trail you'll meet some kids with his outlook on life.

From the book, he ate some wild potato seeds that had a fungus on them that causes your body to not absorb nutrients. Apparently cattle run into that sometimes. The book made the argument he would have known the difference between the poison plant and the one safe to eat because he had a book on edible plants.

In the movie, he supposedly mixed up the wild potato seed with a similar toxic plant that made him weak and poisoned him.

He essentially starved to death in the bus, whether it was from being poisoned or from the fungus on the seeds he ate.

He followed his heart to the wild, but he was ill prepared.

Saw it.
My wife thought "How sad."
I thought "How sad....why didn't he bang the shanty-town chick?"

^LOL. My wife cried at the end. I didn't feel too much sympathy because the guy was pretty ill-prepared. I don't even think he had a shelter when he set out, but he found the bus and setup shop in there. The guy who dropped him off noticed he did not have any boots and gave him a set.
