Default Converting music files to mp3/WMA

Bought the kid a little mp3 player since she's into music.

Trying to load up a cd she has but the files are listed as .cda's or some crap like that.

How do i convert them over to mp3 or WMA files?

You can also use Windows Media Player.

You start out motorcycling with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

with all the spyware issues Realplayer had years ago i've stayed as far away from them as possible.

Windows Media Player (10/11) will rip CDs to your "My Music" folder or where ever you tell it too. go into options and click on the rip tag and you can rip to mp3 or wma. not sure what issue your having with WMP.

Winamp also rips. some of the versions are free. i haven't used it in years though.

As already pointed out, Media Player can rip CDs directly to MP3 files. iTunes can as well, you just have to change the default output format to MP3 (defualt is .m4a). Check the file formats supported by the player as well. The .m4a format produces higher quality in smaller files than .mp3 (although with ear phones it would be difficult to tell any difference).
