I've read on several sites, such as cnet, that the new versions of the 360 have HDMI output that was only on the Elite version. Does this output to 1080p or only 720p/1080i? They also put in a new heatsink that's supposed to be the remedy for all the RROD's. I think I'll get one now that the kinks are mostly worked out... or maybe I'll wait 'till the Halo3 edition is released...

I haven't heard anything about that. It depends what level HDMI cable it is too. If it's the 3.1 then it may be worth it. Otherwise you won't see that much of a difference.
I didn't know there were different types of HDMI except for conversion cables, like DVI-HDMI, etc...
Plus it's a good deal because of the recent price drop.

Well there is a difference between the standard component cables that come with the 360's now and a HDMI cable. In the past the HDMI cable was just video the new HDMI 3.1 is video AND audio in HD plus better quality. But i believe you'll need a 1080 TV to see the full results.
Yeah, that's next on my list, but it'll have to wait till next spring at the earliest. 1080p, how i crave thee.
I'm still looking for the link to the news...

I don't recall that HDMI specifications ever only carried video. HDMI 1.0, IIRC, would carry 1080p and uncompressed 8-bit audio.
The rumors are that even the "Arcade" version of the new 360 will have an HDMI port but no cable included.
720p looks better than 1080i on my 360 and 52" Toshiba DLP.
I've looked at 1080p demos at Hi Fi Buys, and I can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p until you go bigger than 50 inches. Even then, it's like comparing a 2005 Ferrari to a 2008.

Plenty of people think 720p looks better than a 1080i set, and I would have to agree. I've checked out several 720's in people's homes watching HD programming, and it looks great. 1080i is good too-- definitely better than anything I own-- but I'd probably use 720, like you said, on a screen smaller than 50 or so inches.

The reason is very basic. On a 720p you are refreshing all 720 lines at the same time. On 1080i you are refreshing only half of the 1080 lines at a time.
BTW, there is an offer out there for a 360 premium (bought @ retail in July of this year, before HDMI/heatsink conversion), and seller is including the hard drive, wireless controller and headset, 2 games (Rainbow Six:Vegas and Fightnight) and a 1600 point XBL card for $340.
Should I deal or not?
