I have a 360 w/ the red ring of doom. This isn't really an issue, because I bought the replacement plan. The problem is, they are making me send ALL accessories that came with the unit back. This includes my hard drive, where all of my game data is stored. I do not have xbox live, so all I have is my saved games, but I really do not want to loose them. I am trying to find a way not to loose my data, but not pay very much either. Here is what I have come up with so far:
1. Buy a new hdd at best buy. Send that one in with my 360. When I get my replacement voucher, get a new 360. Take the hdd from the new system, put it in the packaging from the one I bought, and take it back for a refund. This way, I still have my old hdd with all info.
2. Buy the memory card to transfer the data onto. If all of my data will fit onto one, just hold on to it and transfer the data back onto the new hard drive.
3. Buy something that I found on Google called "datel xsata", which allows you to transfer data from 360 hdd to pc. But I don't know if I can find one around here.
That is all I have come up with so far. I would really prefer not to spend any money on this, as I am probably upgrading to the elite, and my wife is not going to like the idea of me putting more money into it. Any ideas you guys may have would be appreciated.

When I sent mine back I just sent the box itself. HDD stayed with me.
Keep your drive and send the 360 back. All they'll do is send you a refurbished one anyway. No reason they need the HDD to do that.

My microsoft warranty is over. This is through the best buy warranty that I purchased. I send them all of my stuff, and they send me a best buy gift card for the amount that I paid, so I can just go get a new one to replace it. I may upgrade to the elite now, too.

I did find some software called Xplorer 360. I am currently trying to figure out how to use it. Maybe I can just transfer everything to my pc using this software, then transfer it to my new hdd when I get it.

Dig around this site, I think there is something on there that will help you....

Ahhhh...... thats where they get ya.
Maybe the memory card for your game saves would be the easiest option. You should be able to redownload everything you've gotten off of xbox live.
