Default Silly question but...

What the heck is a roost deflector? I see dirt riders wearing them but there over the jerseys..why not under akin to our spine protectors etc? I have riden quads/atvs etc but I'm just not familiar with WHY it's called a roost protector. I know the purpose so anyone want to give me a wikipedia link or something? haha.

A protective vest worn to prevent getting injured when a rider in front nails the gas and throws debris at you. They used to be worn under the jersey but it was a pain in the ass to the jersey over it when they started making a lot of sharp edges on them plus they cook you when you are just standing around. Worn on the outside they don't snag the jersey, can take them off and on anytime you want and can attach things to it easier (like a camelbak).

Snap! That's why I see them worn infrequently. So..what about spine protectors? Is it becuase they ride dirty they assume no fally on the back?

Meh wonders why this aint in teh MX Forum.... Good Job Boss ^^^

Debris: ever ride behind a 500 ridden by a good rider on a rocky track? Softball sized rocks grtting thrown at you by a 70HP chaingun can inflict some major damage!

Luckily for me I was in front most of the time so I got to hear and see the horror at the truck after riding.... my friends were always complaining about boulders and small animals being thrown at them It got even better if it was muddy ROFL

The roost protector protects the spine but doesn't cover it all the way. If a dirt bike goes down the will most often slide on their side and roll, same with a quad. On a street bike they will slide and flatten out a lot of times and be on their back during the slide because we lean a lot in the corners when you ride agressively

I have been on the same boat before! I used to not wear mine when I was practicing until I caught a rock the size of a golf ball in the collar bone that was spun up from a YZ that was being ridden by a AMA Pro rider (thankfully the "shatterproof" goggles worked).

BTW, moving this to the MX forum KH It does need to be there.

I fell om my back once..... from maybe 15 feet high trying to go up a cliff face slippery as hell, looped it at the top after uttering the "death phrase" "WATCH THIS" to my buddies.... of course I know better than to say things like that..... frikken bike spits me off at the top I fall to the bottom landing flat on my back in a 2 foot deem stream and the dam bike lands smack on my chest seat down on me pinning me underwater!

So I dam near drown as my friends were rolling on the ground laffin

*Moral: NEVER say "WATCH THIS"
