Default Brand New CR500 anyone....

For 2005 the CR500AF introduces an all new 4th generation chassis, refined suspension and a new more aggressive look. The CR500AF combines the fierce power of the CR500 engine and the advanced features of the latest chassis resulting in the most powerful and versatile off road motorcycle today.

The CR500AF’s unique combination of unequaled power, nimble handling, stability and durability makes it ideally suited to a wide variety of riding conditions. Roosting your buddies in the dunes, blasting through the desert, cutting through challenging trails or punishing berms at the local motocross track, the CR500AF performs flawlessly in all conditions.

Many areas require the use of spark arrestor silencers that are noise emission certified. These silencers are available as an option. Unique to the motorcycle world, the easy to control power of the CR500AF is undiminished by these regulatory requirements.

OMG!!! They cost THAT much now!!! I paid a little over 4,500 for mine in 92 but I got it from a good friend that owned the local Honda dealer on Kauai. I actually got it made street legal when I was there and had a blast with it! When I brought it home to Hono and went to transfer the reg for it they said no can do. Kauai is really lax in stuff like that but Hono being a big city everything is on the computers and since it has the off road use only designation on it theres no way to have one on the road in Hono

I ended up selling it and buying a DR 350 Suzi (the off road version) putting the light kit I had from the CR on it and got it legal. It was easy since DR's were already in the system they just let me get it regged like a normal bike!

In the long run the DR was a better choice since I rode it to death put 40,000+ miles on it and never had a single problem, the CR would have went thru half a dozen pistons in that distance.... and mixing gas is a royal pain on a street bike. I know from experience with my RD400.

Damn, why so expensive? Is it because of the rarity of the two-stroke 500?

Honda stopped producing the 500 in either 00 or 01. Service Honda has a deal with honda to keep buying the 500 motors and then put them into a cr250r bike... this is what makes it expensive,

Really? Huh. I was not aware of that. I guess that would explain it being so expensive then.

I would love to get my hands on one. I want to convert one to SM. Yeah, most people say 2-strokes are crap for SM but come on... just think about how much fun it would be.

Wish I had the patience to learn how to post some pictures. I've seen a bunch of really nice 2-stroke 500cc SM's floating around the 'net.

Yea Honda never put a 500 smoker in an aluminum frame so Service Honda started buiding them. Everyone that has riden them says they are a beast.
