Default Just picked up this bike.....

Been on this site for a couple years now, just a new name. I figured i'd finally take the plung over to dirt riding. Gave up sport bikes for a while due to lack of funds. All my friends ride dirt so i figured i'd get down. I guess i always understimated the power band on a 125 two stroke. This thing rips! Got a real good deal on it too, 800$ http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWN%3AIT

CAROLYN!!! 4 stroke wimp

Ya sounds like a great bike! All the important stuff is fresh.... bottom end,

the suspension bearings are super important, very costly/difficult to change... takes special pullers and a press to remove the old and put in the new needle cages without screwing them up...

keep them greased with a good waterproof grease. Do it every other couple times you ride it and wash it, just pump a few shots of fresh grease in all the zerks till some comes out the seals on the linksge and swingarm pivot.

You also might want to look at the steering head bearings make sure there in good shape and well packed with a good grease. Take em out and clean em look at the lower race for pits or dents. It's fairly common on a dirtbike thats been run hard and makes for strange handling - steering will be skitterish from it.

Lift the front off the ground and swing the bars lock to lock make sure its very smooth no play and no binding either from the bearings or cable routings...

Just a coupla things to look at occasionly... its easy to forget that stuff.

Thanks guys and thanks KH that was very helpful. Yeah i love this thing, it runs incredible very reliable so far. We rode an industrial sand pit today and they showed me some really sick woods trails that were sooo fun. Getting better and better each time i ride. Keep up the good work guys and i hope this forum section gets a lot bigger.

So KH, i can grease the bearings (suspension, swingarm, wheels) without taking everything apart? What kind of grease do you use to spray in there? Brand and names would be great, thanks

You need a good lever pump grease gun that takes cartridges of grease. get some good quality molybedumn water resistant grease from Penzoil or any big name company that makes lubricants.

Get a flexible hose for the gun so you can get to the grease nipples that are in hard to get to places.

You can get a good grease gun and the flex hose at virtually any auto parts store. Napa will have the better quality than say pep boys but cost a little more.

Some bikes dont come with grease "zerks" installed instead there will be a plug screwed in the hole. If your bike doesnt have the grease fittings I'd say its probably WAY past due for a good grease job.

When you do it its EXTREMELY Important to wipe the grease fitting off GOOD! You'll see a tiny ball bearing closing a small hole off on the flat tip. Make SURE this is clean otherwise you will force the dirt and grit in with the fresh grease and fuxor the bearings up in no time.

Then snap the coupler on the gun to the fitting and start pumping in grease. Sometimes the fittings will be plugged you will know this if you cannot press the lever down to inject grease in.

To fix this unscrew the fitting and try to pump grease through it when its off. You can push really hard on the guns lever if you get a good one and uasually unclog the fitting.

*Caution* doing that can generate several thousand pounds of pressure and be dangerous as it will cause a stream of grease to blast out at really high pressure. I have seen guys get grease injected into there skin from this and makes a nasty mess that is a bitch to get healed up....

Just use common sense and you'll be fine. Carb cleaner can sometimes help open a clogged fitting too. Just remember to do it off the bike because you dont want to force the blockage into your bearings. Most of the times when a fitting is clogged it's from using shitty grease that dries up and hardens in the fitting.

The normal place to find the fittings will be on the swingarm main pivot. May have 2 one on each side. All the link pivots and sometimes the ends of the shock will also have a grease fitting.

When you are doing it pump in fresh grease until the fresh grease comes out at the seals. It will take several pumps for each one. The swingarm pivot may take 20 or more to get fresh grease to come out.

Wipe all the excess off when your done and thats it!
