WOW what a walk down mwmoery lane!!! I raced with Roger Decoster and Brad Lackey way back in 72! Unreal to be on the same track as champions like them. They were going so dam fast it was insane! I managed to finish 5th by sheer luck in the 3rd anual Interam of Motocross held at Kaneohe Maarine cor station north beach track. There was a HUGE drop away jump (my fave kind of jump) amd the track was just awesome!!
Ake Jonsonn, Marty Tripes, Brent Aberg, Malcom Smith were all there in the same race with me...... what a honor... I was SCARED SHITLESS to be perfectly honest...

these guys were on half million dollar works bikes made specially for the rider out of the best stuff there was.... Ti ultra light super powerful TM 500 Suzukis They weighed under 190 lbs and had close to 80 HP!!! Technoligical marvels state of the art back then. They finally outlawed works bikes around 1980 because the cost of racing was so great to be competetive the privateer had no chance.
All the works bikes were crushed.

only one or 2 still remain in a museum somewhere.
This dates me here.... yep Im a old fart (50) but a old fart that rode with the ledgends of Motocross!
*Be sure to watch the Roger De Coste episode and the Ricky Ticky as me and Phil called him, Phil blew his knew out racing Ricky in the Aloha Stadium Supercross

Phil was actually leading when he cased a huge triple and that was that. Ricky Johnson was probably one of the best riders there was until he injured his back in a crash that ended his career.
And then came the Famous Bob Hurricane Hanna..... You HAVE TO SEEE that episode. He was one of the greatest riders of all time. A WILDMAN on a bike. He hung on somehow and rode like a man posessed. His bike would be swapping wildly all over the track but he kept it up and just blew everyone away.
Dam this has me getting all misty eyed.... to think that dumb young and full of sumtin was out there with the greats!!! WOW..... I can hardly believe it even though I know I did it its still like a dream.....
