Default My 2nd ride on the bike

I did my 2nd ride on the bike today after taking 2 weeks off and man it was awesome!!! I can honestly say that I'm glad I got a 4stroke. Call me lazy but their so much easier to ride

I worked on cornering and some of the jumps out there. What do you guys think of instructional videos??? I can't afford 1-on-1 instruction right now but I do want some advice. I'm slower than dog-sh*t but I'm having a blast learnin'

Here's a pic from me landing the Step-On a little short (Yeah I know I got a lot to work on ) and the 2nd pic is of Billy on my bike (Yeah he knows he looks bigger on my bike than I do ).

Towards the end of the afternoon, I was SO tired!

I tipped over turning and just laid there underneath my bike! One of the guys came over to help me and I told him - 'Nah, I don't need help... I'm just tired'

I laid there till Billy came over to pull the bike off me. Hey at least I got a ride back to the pits

You start out motorcycling with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

Thanks ya'll

My brother helped me out today for a little bit on corners. These were his tips:

1. Get on the gas earlier coming out of the corner
2. Forward on the bike always (Hump the gas tank!)
3. A little more throttle everywhere basically

I just need more technical instructions so that I can work on my form. So far for a beginner, they've said my form is OK but to work on getting more comfortable with the speed and the bike first.

Ya'll need to post up your MX pics

Right On Carolyn!!

I'm a pretty good teacher, I taught a local gal here how to ride and coached her racing Motocross, she went on to become the Womans National Champ for 2 years racing against Mercedes Gonzalas!

My typing is horrible but if you can decode it I can give you some things to work on.....

Corners. Always look for any little grove or berm. Get into it that will hold the bike and allow you to power through the turn. Even a small grove will help.
The fastest way around a corner depends on the turn, generally you will want to enter wide and carrying alot of speed braking hard using both brakes to get to a controlable speed as fast as possible. Cut across the middle to the inside get hard on the gas which will drift you to the outsude.

* a warning about riding a grove, if you slip out of it and go over it or over the top of a berm your going to be in a heap of trouble uasually. Its a risk but every little thing helps.

* Watch other riders, see what there doing. Go out on foot and sit at various turns and watch how the fast guys are taking it. They are your best *free* teachers! Follow someone who is a little faster than you are and watch there lines. Dont pick someone who is way faster than you and get suckered into trying to follow them. Riding over your head WILL hurt you.

In turns your outside elbow should be slighty aimed up. Its akward at first but it will really help. The back of the gas tank is your friend. Plant yourself on the end of the tank, leaning forward slightly elbows slightly bent and up. You will almost be staring at the triple clamps. This is your "attack position"

Also in a turn weight on the outside peg! Keep the elbow slightky bent and a bit up! Coming out of most turns you should "clutch it" to really come out hard and fast, thats why you are leaned forward. To stick the front tire and keep it on the ground.

Keep one finger on the clutch at all times. The clutch is your friend it can give a boost of power that can get you out of trouble (or into trouble!!) it can also stop the bikes acceleration much faster than letting off the gas....

On a 4 stroke DO NOT get into the habit of using the engine braking! Its SLOW!! Use the BRAKES!

I've got some video of RC and his main rival playing around on RC's track and the other guys track Ill upload to a file server for ya. It may take a few days its a big file and will take a while to upload with my 356Kb upload speed. (like 7-8 hours LOL)

Feel free to ask me anything, remember: There are NO Stupid Questions! I like to help you and BB out, it makes this old fart happy to see you two doing good!

Go to Transworld Motocross and watch the fast guys on there videos! A Great way to learn a few things and watch some kickass vids while your at it!!

Aloha, KH

ps. Keep it FUN! Once its not fun, its work... and thats not the reason we do it.....

Thanks KH!!!
I'm going to work on what you posted this weekend.

I worked on corners all day and my biggest problem was getting into the 'attack position' way too late into the corner. I ended up getting it right towards the end of the afternoon. And YES burms do suck to mess up on I know that first hand

I'm going to order the Transworld Motocross video and I'm hoping it'll help.

I want to do my first race in January when the season opens so wish me luck

Just go to transworld and watch the vids for free too. They have tons of them in the video archive. All good quality and of top riders!

I put some pics up of some good form and bad form in corners for ya abd anyone else that wants a little info on cornering.... I learned from a master my buddy Phil, riding with him taught me more than anything I could ever have done. Following him all over the Islands in some of the snottiest stuff imagainable really improved my riding by leaps and bounds.

It was the kind of riding that if you thought you couldn't do it you would not make it. Its about 50% mental and 50% skill, you have to be aggressive.

Phil would get my arse up at 5am and drag me all over Kauai on his way to work. First thing he's do was yell (at 5am in his garage at the top of his lungs LOL) ARUGHHHHHHHHHH Lets Go Shawny! To get his blood pumpin as he called it LOL Like a battle cry!

Ill post a bunch of pics from Kauai and some of the places we went. Thats the best place to ride in the world! I LOVE Kauai.
