Some Good Pics Showing Good Form and Bad Form

OK I dug through a bunch of pics I had and picked out some that show good form and some that are bad form. All in turns.

The one where the guy has his leg along side the bike, thats really bad. Good way to screw your knee up catching a rut, rock or root! Not Good. Your leg should be almost fully extended and out in front of you with just a slight bend in it.

Edumacate me please

. Why do you stick you leg straight out in a turn while riding dirt? Looks like an oppertunity for injury to me. I know the racers wear knee braces to protect themselves, but what are the advantages?

sticking it straight out keeps your toe up less likey to catch on a rock, rut, root and tear your knee apart. with it straight ahead the heel is down and with it slightly bent you have natrual "give" to it hitting a object.

Thanks also for putting it in prespective. I may need to adjust my handlebars again even after I rotated them forward more. That or I need to just go to the gym and get me some guns; I have zip for upper body strength

Hey Mr. KH... I'm still too short for the bike and I'm debating on either getting my suspension done or to get the EnduroEnginneering seat which is lower than the stock seat. Which one would you go with??

Carolyn, I'd say try the seat route. #1 it doesn't change the bikes "balance" if you lower it you will alter the geometry of the bike and possibly affect the handling in a nrgative manner.

For suspension, I can set you up with the best in the biz, and possibly get you a good deal in the doing. I went to school and rode with Paul Thied of Rade Tech Suspension. He does suspension for the big boys. He and I go way back. 30 yrs back

I found out tonight that the EnduroEngineering seat is approx $138 so I'll try that first rather than mess with my stock seat.

I think Billy found a write up and pictures on how to get a full 1.5" drop seat instead of the 0.5" drop.

Thanks for the advice KH and I'll keep pickin' your brain about MX if you don't mind

Same basic reason, catch a toe on a curb or corner rumble strip.... also most of the top motarders were or are top MXers. Habit too...

WOW KH! Great pics!!! I now know what I need to work on!!!

Everytime I get some decent lean out of the YZ I end up wacking my foot on something. I always worry I am going to rip my foot off at the ankle. Next time on dirt I am going to work on straightening that leg out to the front.

I tore the crap outta my right knee doing the dumb foot along side the bike years ago before they figgured out in front is better.... hooked my boot under a root in the woods and got yanked off the bike and majorly messed my knee up. Was on crutches for 6 months!

KH, you didn't mention the fact that you are transfering a lot of weight to the front tire for better grip in the corner. This is critical in a lot of soft conditions
