I run in Harescrambles down here in Florida with the Florida Trail Riders.
I have raced in the Palatka and Okechobee GNCCs, but it was just for the practice.
I ride B-Open on a 2002 KTM 400 MX/C that has more trick parts than my streetbike.

Hare scramble is the name given to a particular form of off-road motorcycle competition. Hare Scrambles are conducted on closed course tracks which can vary from 5 and 40 miles in length. The terrain chosen for these events is usually fairly rugged in order to test the riders' skills. While portions of a typical hare scramble course may be run on sections of pre-existing motocross tracks, the majority of the track will typically be laid out over natural terrain. The natural terrain tests the riders' abilities to navigate through obstacles such as creek beds, logs, hills, mud, rocks and ruts. The competitors are typically categorized by their relative skill levels and the size of their motorcycle's engine. For example, many hare scrambles categorize rider ability by having three rider skill categories. These categories are typically denoted by the letters A, B, and C. The "A" class would be for the riders with the highest skill level. The most common time periods for a hare scramble competition is either 2 or 3 hours.

Depending on who laid out the track it can be a nightmare that lasts a hundred miles or more or a smooth ultra high speed blast through fairly smooth rolling hills and meadows. Depending on length there are uasually at keast 2 or more laps.

We run 3 world famous events here, all by invitation only. The De Soto Hare n Hound (John De Soto was 250 worlf champ in 72 one of the first americans to beat the europeans) its a toss up which is the toughest race, between Johbs race and The Kauai Hare and Hound both are known by anyone thats ridden one as the toughest race in the world... to a extent that the locals ride 80's... because when it gets suoer ugly they pick it up nd carry it... I was in a team with my friend Phil and we took 1st overall Phil in first by nearly half a hour and me 3rd

Then theres the 2 day long run up to the top of Mauna Kea on the Big Island from the sea to the peak and back down 200 miles of hell. Your roasting in the sweltering sun at the start then freezing your ass off on top. I raced it twice never placing better than 22nd. I was just glad to even finish, Dam Phil has taken the overall 5-6 times

These races always have the best the world has to offer in entrants. The hometown advantage really helps here... only a few years have a outside rider won. Dam locals always cheatin

ahhhhh...I love hare scrambles!! I raced them on both bikes and quads and they are a blast!! The last year I raced the quads I ran a race with Bill Balance and holy shit!! Blasting through the woods at 45-50 mph I thought I was rocking until Bill passed me with 1 wheel on the ground and running about 65 mph over trees/logs and such.

Contact the Rock Island Rider. Blackwater isn't really "hard" in the definatiom that these are... these races kill peop[le. It's one thing to ride bad conditions in mid west climates. It's a whole mother thing to attempt it in 95 degrees and 100% humidity..

If that isn't enough think about falling on lava rock that looks like a gianmt cheese grater at speed... miss a turn and go off course at speed your more than likely not going to make it...

Then take in the Altitude effects.... Mauna Kea is the Highest mountain in the world... nearly 15,000 feet at the summit.

Mauna Kea 200 has the dangers. The other 2 are just super human effort type events... like I said the guys have been going on the 80's si they can oick it up and carry it....

The invite list is made of most of the top motocrossers like McGrath, Hughes. Tortelli and there likes. Only reason I was in was brcause of my friend Phil.

Its nearly impossible to find anything about Hawaii bexause of the sheer volume of crap that is made by everybidy and there brother... Thats Hawaiian style for ya!

John DeSoto's entry into the motorcycle hall of fame... I raced with John in 72 qne 73 in the Hawaiian Interam of Motovross against the Europeans before any American had managed to beat them.

That was more of an honor than anything else... Aldolf Wiel, Marty Tripes, Sylvain Geobores, Malcom Smith, Roger DeCoster all the top guys came out with there mega buck trick works bikes;... in those days Hondda and the others spent milliond building one off dirtbikes for there team riders.

The outright "trick" factor of these bikes was just amazing, everything made by hand frim the best of the unobtasnium there was... todays bikes are just "off the rack" compared to the bikes they rode then... Around 1992 or si the AMA banned "works" bikes for good. No one could build bikes ckise the what the big pocket factorys made...
