Time to get the ride ready. Inspect the tires, chain, sprockets, fork seals and the grips. Drop-out the old fluids and replenish with new. Remember to look over the leathers, gloves and your lid. Always ride safely and enjoy the ride!

Would It Be Possible to Have a Dedicated Motorcycle Lane?

In California, white-lining is common practice for motorcyclists in their commute on the parking lots we call Freeways. As a motorcyclist, this is normal and practiced. Whereas, other motorists may feel unsafe, uneasy and insecure about the motorcyclist's action.

Would it be possible to modify the current HOV Lane and primary lane design to accommodate a Dedicated Motorcycle Lane?

We'll see if this might become a possibility with up-coming Freeway projects throughout Southern California. Suggestions have been sent to the Orange County Transportation Authority via County Supervisor Bill Campbell and forwarded to Caltrans.

Suggestions such as a possible implementation of line delineation changes to ease ingress/egress issues have already been passed-up the chain. The "DML", Dedicated Motorcycle Lane was also a suggestive item.

Mind you, this approach is out-of-the-box thinking that is not so impossible. If you have traveled any length of Freeway in Southern California with an operational HOV Lane, just take a look at the distance between the abutment of the HOV Lane and the #1 Traffic Lane respectively. Hmmmmm......Can it be done?

Only time will tell. A "DML" might be a way to reduce the zig-zag, in-and-out-of-traffic riding of motorcyclists upon the Freeways. Not seem so selfish. This "DML" would be a perfect transit lane for our "On 2 In Blue" public servants. Also, with traffic outwardly and temporarily displaced, could be accessible by Emergency Services in response to traffic collisions in the inner portion of the Freeway as well as the center divider calamities.

What is your feedback or suggestion? This is your chance to sound-off, be heard and be counted.
