Default little 600 Monster came home.

Well I picked up a little 01 600 Monster Dark the other day to replace the bike I just sold.

I have to say that it is a cool little bike to ride. I know it is only a 600 but it is plenty fast enough for me. I just like to ride.

This is going to need a good bit of TLC in the looks department but that is no big deal.

It has D&D pipes on it and it sounds great. Other than some low clip ons, it is all stock. I may go back to the regular style bar but it is not to bad with the low clip ons.

One question I have on performance. The air box lid still has the stock snorkles in it. If I just pull those out and let the box get more air, will it help out or does it run better with the snorkels in place?

I don't know much at all about Ducati bikes but I guess I am going to learn.

You may noice abit of a gain, but not much. What you will notice is more of an intake roar. That said, I have open airboxes on all of my Monsters.

I assume if I pull the snorkels out I may have to re-jet the bike. Plugs do not look to bad right now. Pipes look like it is running a little rich. They are pretty sooty at the tips. So she might be just a touch rich right now.

The little snorkels are so small and the intake opening could almost double is size with them out.

How far do peple go with opening up the lids? Do you have any problems wiht water getting in the air box with it opened up?

Also, What is a good on-line source for parts for this bike? Or another good fourm to go to for info as well.

Every motorcycle made could stand a little tuning.

I just cut the lid off leaving the upper rim so I could use that to snap it down with the clamps.

Try Chris at Ducati Parts, Parts for Performance and Motorcycle Maintenance >> California Cycleworks. If you cant find it here, you dont need it.

Thanks for the site info. That looks like a good place to get stuff.

And I will get pics up soon. She is not anything special to look at. Just another little Monster Dark with pipes and clip on's. She really needs a lot of TLC. She will make a good winter project.

Congratulations. It's a good machine and very solid if given reasonable maintenance.

+1 on CA Cycleworks. Chris is a good guy, and knows what he's doing.

Additional note -- I recently spent a week with a friends 620 Monster, and was quite impressed. See the first half of the starting post for this thread for details: Experiences at both ends of the Ducati spectrum

Oh my goodness, I just had to reply to this thread. I have been owned by a 2001 M600 for over 5 years now and I have to say that this little bike is one hot little rocket! I have done nothing but flog the daylights out of this bike and it runs like a dream. Regular tune ups, tires, and an occasional fuse or two and never a negative peep. This bike will make you a fan of Ducati in no time
