The ST2 is a nice touring bike but my favorite touring bikes have to be the BMW r1200gs or r1200rt. I think they provide a more comfortable ride. Unfortunately they have much more electronics on those BMWs bikes than most, which might not be what you want.

I'm much more inclined toward the sportier, nimbler, and *much* less electronic or gadgety. For me travelling alone, actually, the Monster is an excellent touring bike. I can do 6-700 miles a day on that just fine. It just doesn't make passengers happy. At all. So the ST2, as more-or-less a 2V Monster with some wind protection, bags, and an adequate passenger seat, would probably do the job just fine.
