Tech thread
Maybe we could have one tech thread that's not all clogged up and threadjacked? s
I want to powdercoat my brake and clutch master cylinders (coffin style.) Are there issues I should be aware of? What's the best way to flush out the system? Is the baking (it's gotta sit for 20 min in 400 degrees) going to mess with the rubber seals, etc?
And, does anyone have any exhaust wrap they want to sell me? I'm lookin' for 50 feet or so.

I've never powder coated brake parts, but if I did, I'd remove all the rubber pieces.
I order exhaust wrap from Jegs, 1" wide 50' roll white or black...

Nah, black with gold levers. I'm not really interesting in taking the entire thing apart... but I imagine that's what I'll have to do.

Know any tricks to get it nice and flush and held down well?
The last time I did my header and exhaust pipes, I used small hose clamps. It looked okay, but after a couple months of riding the wrap loosened itself up and started to fray in several places. I wrapped it as tight as I could, and made sure it was soaking wet before I started the bike up. I only did one layer. Is it better to do more than one? I want to do it right this time.

Also, I have a basically mint condition seat from an '02 Monster.
Does anyone want it?

I buy the 1" wrap, trick is to over lap at least a 1/3 rd of material..on every round. seems to hold up really well that way..

Yes, if you want to powdercoat it, you'll have to take it completely apart and remove all the seals, and also mask the channels the seals go in so that they will fit back in after you put it all back together.
Probably better to just paint them,or to buy some that are already the color that you want and replace them.

Well,
I've already tried sanding them down and painting them with spray-paint. I've had formal training in illustration, watercolors, and oil paints -- art mediums I've loved engaging in throughout my life... so I'm no slouch with a rattle can and I know what it takes to get a nice finish.
But the result is never what I have in mind. The powdercoating I've done (like I said, a good friend of mine does all the p-coating I want gratis) looks SO good. My rearsets, headlight, and assorted pieces came out perfect.
However, I think I'll have to agree with you guys here. Taking down an m/c might be more trouble than it's worth, if that's the case. I'm trying to get my bike back on the road, not deal with more aggravating rebuilds.
I can't really afford to upgrade to goldline m/c's right now. Plus, I like the aesthetics of the coffins -- very low profile. When I got my bike, the PO had the goldlines on, and I never really liked the way the reservoirs looked.
For an example of my aesthetic.. I hid my kill switch in the frame, I removed all blinkers, and I did away completely with the turn-signal/hi-lo beam assembly (my headlight is on perma-high-beam!). My choke is mounted near my battery box (it never gets cold enough here for me to need it). All I have on my clip ons are my clutch m/c, my brake m/c, and my throttle. It's worthless without pics, but the bike is still in the shop. I'm gonna upgrade (downgrade?) to a tiny little digital odometer soon. I don't even want a speedo or a tach. I want my bike to be two wheels and an engine.
I'm not really concerned about performance. All this blah-blah about brake feel and shit. I'm not a track rider, so I don't need Rossi-inspired braking. Those two huge fucking brembo disks will send me head-over-heels if I use more than two fingers, coffin or not.
Any thoughts?

Your state may, I say 'may', require you to have a speedo OR a tach. Don't go so minimalist that you get pinched by the po-po.
