back to the thread title...

I also collect military firearms. I have rifles for every US conflict prior to Vietnam going back to the US Civil War. Most of the 20th century conflicts used the same rifles. The big changes were WW2 (Garand) and Vietnam (M16). All are original issue.

Korean War - M1-D, semi-auto M14 (original demilled USGI)
WW2 - early M1 and 1903A1, Russian Mosin Nagant '91, Finn Kivääri M/91 (Nagant), Gewehr 98 - Stalingrad capture, Arisaka type 99 "Last Ditch", Hungarian M44 Nagant, Polish M44 Nagant (standard SovCom issue)
WW1 - 1903, SMLE MkIII, '98 Mauser, Turk Mauser '91.
Spanish-American War - 1873 Springfield "Trapdoor" in .45-70 (yes, fireable), Spanish Mauser '93.
Civil War - 1854 musket (Austrian) used by the CSA (unfireable)

I inherited a lot of my collection from my pop. He was trying to get a sample firearm of every participant in every US conflict.

I also hae stuff used in the Spanish Civil War, the Chinese Civil War, Israeli War of Independence (Czech Mausers), and other stuff. I really like having the older stuff especially if it was used in conflict -- it's a real piece of history you can hold.

Hard to find items are

WW2 Aussie and Canadian stuff.
Any civil war stuff

Most of the American GI stuff is around, just pricey. Even the Russkie stuff is available, but most of it is re-arsenaled.

Tizzy, who made your M1's? I used to work with a guy who was buying them through the Civilian Marksmanship Program. He only bought M1 rifles and bough collector grade of different manufacturers. Some of them, like Rockola, are pretty valuable.
