which monster do you have?

i want rearsets for my S2R, but they are around $500 for the S&P and about the same for the other brands... yowch

i am making a set for my Alazzurra project bike. Hard to describe, but the pegs are on a bracket which also mounts the exhaust. I am cutting it in half and flipping it over so they mount rearwards and putting a bracket underneath for the exhaust.

Check out the pics.. on the line drawing, the green is the bracket. red is the retainer bolts, blue is the pegs, yellow is the clutch lever and light blue is the linkage.

the green will be cut off aft of the bolts and then flipped, so it will be further back and higher.

I have a 1996 M900. I thought about fabbing up some rearsets from the stockers as well. there were a couple posts on DML where this looked pretty good. I thnk they did pretty much the same thing as you have drawn. cut and flip I think your plan looks good.

On a different note...I know to remove the front wheel I loosen the pinch bolts on the left side of the fork and then remove the allen nut on Right side. What size allen key?? anybody know if I need to remove the brake calipers when removing front wheel any tips on the speedo mechanism?

1996 M900
thanks

this is what I did to my S4. Looks pretty good and the best part was it's free, except the $20 for powder coating...

The calipers do have to come off, the pinch bolts are 6mm. the speedo is very easy to remove and put back. When you mount your wheel, torque the axle nut, leave the pinch bolts loose. Drop the bike from the front stand and compress the forks 2 or 3 times and turn the handle bar back and forth a few times. This will settle the forks inside the axle. Lift it back up re-tourqe the axle and tighten the pinch bolts. Starting from the inside 1-2-1...

leave the pinch bolts until you remove the large nut, else it will all just rotate when you try to turn it.

i think they are 8mm, but you should pick up a allen socket set especially when you torque it all back down. those pinch bolts are important..

cable speedos are easy, just unscrew the cable nut to remove the cable and when you take the wheel off, the speedo pickup comes with it. if you've never done it before, make sure to take pics with your digital camera so you know the order of the spacers and stuff.

Hey, check out what this guy did to his stock rear sets. Is he a serious mod god*, or what?

I'm currently setting up an ST4s 996 engine to put in my bike: 12.2:1 compression, squish set, corsa valve springs, dialed SPS cams. I think I'm going to call it an S4s Foggy...

*mod god is not to be confused with god mod (see god mod definition below**).

**Definition: god mods are whinny, insecure, geeks with (presumably) underdeveloped genitalia. They are known to hunt in packs, and prey on the defenseless).

also be very carefull when you start taking the wheels off, remove this bolt and that bolt and you could end up with something like this.

You have an S4 too? Very cool, no I didn't see them. Pls post.

You have a lot of newer bikes, mine are mostly pre-1990. I like the 85-92 Pantah engined bikes. I have been sniffing at some 996-998s but haven't gotten the bug bad enough to go 4-valve.

I have a long-trem project bike that is an 85 Cagiva Alazzurra that is slowly turning into a behemoth. aggh.. I won't finish it until i leave this godfersakken city.
