yea i was a little pissed when i wrote that, still am a little bit but over it for the most part. i know there are some good people on that board and shouldnt have let one guy ruin my expectations of the board. so disregard my message, not ALL of them are assholes and scammers.
i had bougt a bike from a guy on there that im pretty sure that you know. bike need a little work but nothing that i couldnt handle.. mainly just fairings (im a paint tech). anyways this was my first bike purchase and i got a little ahead of myself during the purchase, also there was another buyer there so i got a little anctious. the guy specifically said there was a small leak coming out of the shift seal (this was not mentioned in the ad in the classified section and was brought to attention after looking at it for a while). i talked to a buddy about it and he said it was not a big deal and could be changed out in 10 minutes. so i thought good deal, bike was a little more than what i wanted to spend in that condition (should have just doubled my money and bought a newer/straighter bike, but i wanted to paint the bike i got anyways so this was perfect).
anyways i get it home to start tearing into it. drained the oil, went and got the $5 seal, oil, and filter and started to work on the seal. wasnt a big deal, just like my buddy said, then i filled it back up with oil. the guy said he had done a full complete tune up on the bike which was bull shit because the oil looked like crap... my buddy who has rode bikes for a long time and also races sprint cars said it wasnt even motorcycle oil and looked to be about as old as the bike. anyhow we changed it and started it back up. so far so good. i drove it around for a while and man i never thought changing the oild would have made such a difference. got it back home and it was still leaking.
well what the hell so we looked into it and it never was leaking out the shifter seal. we pulled sproket cover and sprocket off and found that it was leaking out of there. not to mention we could tell someone had the sprocket off by the look of the bolt that was holding it on. The flipping seal had a piece of PLASTIC shoved in there to slow down the leak... it must of worked ok because we started it up to see if it that was the place it was leaking out of and it leaked even worse! so i got some estimates on the repair and it was going to run about 700-800 bucks.... not cool and not what i wanted to hear or spend.
i call ole boy back up to tell him the news and pretty much told me i was screwed. i told him that it wasnt a cool thing to do and that i would appreciate any help or even if he could buy the bike back.. yadda yadda so on. he said he would 'think' about giving me a little bit back for the repairs, which i was more than happy about. week passed by and i was a little agitated because i was ready to get this bike on the road... repair time was going to be 2 weeks as is. basically he told me to piss off and told me that i should do what he did and sell the bike on craigslist or ebay and lie about where the leak was coming from. i told him that i wouldnt stoop down to that level of ignorance and that was the end of that. so now i have to spend the $700 out of my pocket just to get this think to not leak oil and have wasted almost 4 weeks of getting this bike on the road. thats why i was so pissed, because some little bitch lied about where the leak was coming from... and he had to of known due to "all of his riding experience and motorcycle restoration crap blah blah blah...." dont tell me you dont do a full tune up on a bike and not check where the oil leak is coming from... especially if you know its only a $5 part and can be changed out in 10 minutes. i should have not bought it due to his lame excuse of selling. sorry for the long message

That really sucks, and trust me I have been in the same boat. I purchased an R6 with real low miles, and the guy said it was not hitting on all 4 cylinders. Ok, I took it home cleaned the carbs, replaced plugs, etc. Found out that a rod in the #1 was broken! DAMMIT! I guess I could have called the guy back, but for $600-$800 I just replaced the motor. I guess "As-Is" got me that time.
Depending on what bike it is, I would consider just replacing the motor. If it is a Busa, they prolly run $1500 or so though. If it is something common like R6, CBR, or Gixxer6, you can prolly get them under the $700 repair bill.
Don't let that stop you from getting involved with SWMO. ;)

yea i know the buyer beware policy but damn man ive ate shit that ive sold due to bad stuff that has happened in the past (automotive... i guess im too nice man i dont like ripping people off)... could of atleast made some type of deal. i just went ahead and had a shop repair it because i didnt want to deal with it. i actually found a motor 600 shipped to me but didnt want to take another risk.
oh well man im just pissed because ive been waiting sooo flipping long for some nice weather and i finally get a bike and it seems like its taking fooorreeverrrr to get it done. my buddy bought a salvaged bike and we planned on having them done at the same time... but of course he's already riding his and i dont have shit. got the fairings done just waiting on the repair to get done. ive been actually logging on swmo and looking at a few post, like i said i kind of sterotyped everyone due to one a hole on the site (who happens to be pretty respectable according to posts). but anyways i cant wait to ride my bike.
also im kind of pissed off at cruisin 66 because they were too 'busy' to give me a rough estimate on the repair. they laughed at me and told me not to bother with it. i called and went to 4 orther places and were very helpful in pointing me the right direction and giving me advice, not being smartasses like cruisin 66. so i took it to another shop to do the repairs. not one of the repair shops had anything good to say about those guys but i guess it all competition.
