I'm shipping Thursday the 4th, for RTC in Great Lakes. After which I'll be headed to the DLI in Monterey, Cali. Since I am going to be there for like 63 weeks, I was hoping to get my first bike then(08 ex250). Will I even be able to do that? I'm really hoping to be able to ride for that year instead of waiting for my first station.
I don't think it should be a problem.... HOWEVER, since it is a school I don't think they will let you take a few days off to take the MSF course to ride on base. But some places are different. I know most a-schools are pretty strict about missing days.
Usually not everyone gets there at the same time due to leave and such. If you get there a bit before your school starts, you will have a better chance of getting through the MSF class.

YEA RIGHT! a bike in A-School, keep dreaming, this ain't the Air Force! You won't even be allowed off base or civilian clothes. HA bike in A-school! Who will clean the toilets if you are out riding your bike? Maybe they will let you get a Huffy...maybe.
whats your job for 63 weeks of school? holy hell. after that wheres your duty station? I would suggest buying a bike AFTER you get to your Permanent duty station, and a bit while after that...not the day you get there.

thats only for the first few weeks. Hes gonna be there over a year. Those schools do things a little differently since they will be there so long.

yes they do...however hes still in "student status" which is more stringent on liberty and what not.
I was at fort sill, ok and one MOS that was there was radar techs, there school was like a year long half done in 29 palms, then half done in OK, they didn't have any real liberty...our liberty was from 1800-2245 if they decided to give it to us...usually when we got back from class we ended up field daying the place and put into "squad bay libo"

What language are you training for ? I don't think it will be a problem. My A school was about a year too and they allowed civilian clothes and off base liberty. I believe as long as you have an MSF course scheduled the pass and decal station will at least give you a temporary to get on base. Do you know how to ride at all or are you starting from scratch ?
If your training is hectic, you might have to take the MSF on your own time during a weekend without duty. Although I doubt you'll constantly be in training for the full 63 weeks. They usually have periods in between classes where for a few weeks at a time you'll be sent TAD to other commands on the base. They call it ACU "awaiting class up".
Of course that training command could be strict. They could just say no seaman forceofwill, you can't ride a motorcycle while you're in training. You won't know for sure until you get there and ask your class company commander and route a special request chit. Don't buy one until you find out the policy.

Hoping for Chinese, should be able to get it with a 119 DLAB. Yeah, I've heard it's a tiered liberty thing, for the first bit I won't be able to leave but they give you more and more. I'm pretty much starting from scratch for learning so I wouldn't buy the bike until I took the MSF. I'm just hoping they'll let me take it on one of the weekends we have off.
Some MSF classes are on the week end as long as you don't have duty. I was in IDC school 53 weeks & we had 3 other guys buy bikes out there in class & took MSF on weekend. IMHO.

Hey for real, If you are in Illinois just take the Riders Edge course at your local Harley dealer, you pay a few hundred bucks BUT they let you use their bikes (buell blast) and its in the evening on a Thursday and Friday and then a Saturday and Sunday of riding. WAY easier than putting in a request that will get denied. You don't need to take the ON BASE MSF course you just need A MSF course, and of course the Riders Edge is the MSF course. Thats what I did, you will probably need to sign a PAGE 13 when you get your bike.
If you're planning on taking the MSF in Monterey just be prepared to make a drive to take it. The nearest course I know of is at Cabrillo College, about 40 minutes away, and it usually fills up quick. Just look for other options. I ended up driving up to San Mateo, (Outside San Francisco), to take the course. It was a 2-2.5 hour drive but worth it as it fit my schedule. There are plenty of courses within driving distance just not super local. Good luck.
