Default Japan spec helmets vs DOT

For you guys out here in JPN, just wanted to share some info I received from my Rider Coach this weekend. She stated that JPN spec helmets, while not DOT approved, are still acceptable to wear. She used my helmet when giving the section on gear and how to know what to look for when you're shopping. She says the "S" sticker on the back has a speed rating. Riders wearing that helmet, should they be in an accident will have their medical care paid for by JPN based on the rating of that sticker. The helmet ratings of that "S" sticker is actually a higher rating than DOT helmets in the States.

So, JPN spec helmets are ok here in Japan. However, when you go back to the States, you'll need to get a helmet which is specifically DOT approved.

Of course, DOT approved helmets are perfectly fine to wear out here in JPN too.

You ever see those "DOT" helmets that some of these dumb asses wear over here? Nothing but stupid novelty lids.
