BAsically. But he makes more money now than he would if he was an e-6 with 4 years in. Plus theres that whole being with your family and not getting shot at everyday. The militarys not for everybody. Dont try and make him out to be chump cause family means that much to him.

Would I have personally stuck it out? Yes. But like I said, its not for everybody.

Again this must happen before 6 months of service.

The ELS is a bullshit way for basic trainees to quit and go home without encurring the penalties of a dishonorable discharge.

Ther was ai guy I was in with that went UA (Unauthorized Absence) and wound up with a General Discharge after he got up with his congressman and wrote a bunch of letters, kind of bullshit in my opinion but, to each their own I guess.

Actually with less than 6 months of service the Military feels it is not worth the cost to prosecute an AWOL offense so they just ELS you. Strip all the benefits you've earned and send you packing. It's cheaper.

Again still BS. Family or no family when you join the military you swear an oath. If you leave the military for any reason other than medical before your term of service is up then you have broken that oath and, in my opinion, do not deserve the same rights as other citizens. If you don't want to serve this country that is your choice but don't swear to defend it and then puss out just because some factor of your life changed. My mother spent the first year of her marriage alone while my father was stationed on the DMZ in Korea. With his degree in accounting he could have made MUCH more in the civilian sector than he did as an AA officer even after 20 years of service. My family is the reason I joined the military. Without our military we would not have the freedoms to raise our families and live our lives the way we do.

"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf" - George Orwell.
