Default Flags on your uniforms.

Hey im the the CDN army and our flags are normal but Last year when we went for an execise in Fort Drum I noticed some guys with flags that were backwords. Then watching tv or something i remember seeing it again.

Why is that?

I could be wrong, but I believe it has something to do with war time and peace time. I believe the flags are turned during a time of war. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though. That's something I was told at one point.

It's backwards because it's suppose give the effect of a flag flying in the wind as the person moves forward.

forward movement is the correct answer, always advancing and never retreating.

it is backwards so the union is closer to your heart. The union should always be closer to your chest than the rest of the flag. but i did here the flying thing as well

Per AR 670-1

28–18. Wear of full-color U.S. flag cloth replica
a. General. All soldiers throughout the Force, regardless of deployment status, will wear the full-color U.S. flag
cloth replica on utility and organizational uniforms.
240 AR 670–1 • 3 February 2005
b. Description. The colors of the U.S. flag cloth replica are red, white, and blue. The size is approximately 2 inches
by 3 inches.
c. How worn.
(1) When approved for wear, the full-color U.S. flag cloth replica is sewn 1⁄2 inch below the right shoulder seam of
the temperate, hot-weather, enhanced hot-weather, and desert BDU; the BDU field jacket; and the cold-weather
uniform (see fig 28–135). If the SSI–FWTS is worn on the right shoulder of the utility uniform, the full-color U.S. flag
cloth replica is placed 1⁄8 inch below the right shoulder sleeve insignia (see fig 28–136). The SSI–FWTS is not
authorized for wear on organizational uniforms, unless indicated above.
Figure 28–135. Wear of full-color flag cloth replica, right sleeve
Figure 28–136. Wear of shoulder sleeve insignia-former wartime service, with flag replica, right sleeve
(2) The full-color U.S. flag cloth replica is worn so that the star field faces forward, or to the flag’s own right. When
worn in this manner, the flag is facing to the observer’s right, and gives the effect of the flag flying in the breeze as the
wearer moves forward.
The appropriate replica for the right shoulder sleeve is identified as the reverse side flag.

I've heard it stated that the stars lead the charge. As if the flag is leading you into battle.

It should also be noted that this is NOT a war time/peace time thing since it was not regulation to wear a flag on your uniform until June of '04 which was obviously war time. Before that time nothing was worn on the right shoulder unless you had been deployed in a combat zone, then you could wear the unit crest of which ever unit you served with on that arm.

Notice that the Canadian flag is Symetrical. Meaning that the Oak Leaf representing Canada is in neutra territory. Just like their French Bretheren. Always want to be Symetrical and Neutral.

Forgive my spelling I went to school in Florida.
