Thanks

get a TECHNICAL degree, volunteer for anything community service, talk to your college recruiter, most pilots are ring knockers (academy grads), note I said MOST, be in peak physical shape, and graduate with honors.

Actually a rated officer position (pilot, navigator, ABM) are the only career fields in the Air Force where they do not require you to apply with a technical degree. Sure it will help, but the main thing is that you keep your GPA up and have some diversity as in extracurricular activities as you mentioned.

Yes, having a private pilots license will make you slightly more competitive (it will add a couple of points to you PCSM [Pilot Candidate Selection Method] score, capped at 200 hours), but it does not weigh as much as you think, besides enhancing your "total" package.

Most pilots (just like every other career field) come from ROTC, it is just that the academy has a set number of slots from which the top cadets can choose from.

Yeah it does help to go through the academy, not only for the aforementioned reasons, but for the networking and forging relationships. The officer corps and the military in general is built on "who you know."

Just trying to add to your post Jiggly, just been reading www.airforceots.com and the official http://www.afoats.af.mil/index.asp a lot lately.

Air Force Officer Qualification Test scores will have most effect.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. I think i may get in contact with a recruiter and talk to him about it, and my options. This is all a few years down the road, but id like to keep my options open, and make sure i dont burn any bridges along the way.
Thanks Again!!

Coming from a prior enlisted guy, don't waste your time enlisting. Since I was in the Navy pursuing this issue, it doesn't matter what your degree is. Everything else is about right, you don't have to have your PPL, I've seen guys come in off the street with no knowledge of aviation at all, they just watched Top Gun! If you just want to fly, look into the Army Warrant program as well.

If you just want to fly and that's it, WO would be the way to go (IMHO). I'm a F-15C guy and we are having to fight tooth and nail to stay in the jets. They want us to go do staff tours and broaden ourselves. Too bad we don't have different tracks for tactical leaders vs "big-picture" leaders. If we had WO's in the AF I'd sign up right now!

But, like the other posts. Degree doesn't matter unless you want to apply for TPS (Test Pilot School) you need some sort of Eng. background. (and a 50 lb brain... but that's a different discussion...)
