Funny...the comparison never occurred to me. But now that you mention it....
Bob's doing great! We've had a lot of interest in the S1000RR, and our past two open houses have been fun! Plus, there's all the trips Bob likes to take. You know, riding around the world and such.
Hope you get to stop by to check out the bike!

Selling his bikes and buying bikes from him are two different experiences, I 'spose.
Seriously, though - good luck with the open house.

Hmm. That would be *very* interesting as it would imply that is a production example, rather than the pre-production demo bikes that have been around for months.
Can you confirm that?

Any that you've seen before today in the US have been pre-production bikes, none of which were done in the Motosports colors. Hence my curiousity.

This will be a pre-production, but I believe it to be the final version as the other 4 that
were here looked pre-production. This is supposed to be a "final" version.

Slightly off-topic, Daniel, but have you heard anything about the Cycle World International Motorcycle Show scheduled in DC next January having been cancelled? Salesman at a different metric brand dealership claims that's the case.

Still the biggest personal fundraiser (in the world) for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. He's a pretty big asset to the charitable community around here, in general. (Disclosure: Bob's is also one of our strategic partners, but if it wasn't all true, I'd have just kept my mouth shut.)

Oh, no question he's a charitable SOB. I've had some *cough* personal experiences with Bob over the years, and know some of his past employees on a personal basis. All of them are great people IMO.

I like Bob. He has the enviable quality of being entirely transparent in every conversation. I can see how that might be off-putting to some. I think it makes everything simpler.

That's certainly not my experience with the man, nor the experience of many others.
I'm sure Bob has other 'qualities' you aspire to though; hence your envy.

From our sales manager Ashton, here's the unofficial word on the bikes in the US, or at least how the story goes.
There were reportedly 5 total bikes brought in to the US. Two for the East Coast and two for the West Coast. One was to be used to be taken a part for specialty manufacturers and/or generally picked at internally. There may have been more at BMW, but we doubt it. We didn't see them at the NJ training facility and techs we know who were there for training saw no signs of them.
The East and West Coast bikes were assigned to "Ambassadors" who were given X5s and trailers to get them around. Nate Kern is the East Coast Ambassador and was to use one bike for track days with dealers and at select events riding on tracks with customers. The other bike was for dealer display to be started and ridden.
The West Coast Ambassador, as the story goes, was someone who was associated with a dealership somehow and someone vouched for him. Anyway he was at a track day with customers and got it all wrong coming up on two other riders and destroyed the 4th bike and was apparently not given another one to ride.
That left three in the US. Nate on the East Coast would swap bikes and tires on occasion. Some of the demo bikes had the ASC and ABS buttons but were dummies as the electronics were not on the bikes.
We saw the two East Coast bikes side by side and the tops of the triple trees had different finishes and there were a lot of minor differences you would expect on pre-production bikes. BMW is a very small manufacturer, in terms of bike volume, so there are few big changes that could even occur.
The bikes are sorted in Germany and the goal was to get runners here and in front of customers running in anger.
The one coming to Bob's is of unknown origin but there are production bikes around and this bike would likely be a fleet bike or for internal use. A small batch might come in in advance for special duty, sometimes as few as one. Production bikes for US customer delivery should be going into production right about now with an expectation that the first delivered bikes arrive in early December.
Hope this helps.
