Default HELP!! changed my oil to synthetic....starter broke!

1987 zx 1000r after i changed my oil to synthetic, i couldn't get it started after 20 seconds or so and then the starter began spinning. now it'll turn over once or twice and then spin and grind. Is this related to to oil... i think it is... or am i going to have to rebuild or get a new starter? any help or advice will be greatly appreciated

the same company that makes synthetic oil rebuilds starters too; it's a big conspiracy man! the only way to avoid it again is to install a pullstart from a mcculloch chainsaw. these are easy to find at your local salvage yard. HTH

The starter does not sit in oil, nor does the gear it drives (but the shaft of the gear does). So in no way did you changing your oil affect the starter...unless you managed to do something to the wires going to the starter.

I dont think the oil change had anything to do with the starter...but I did find out the hard way that changing the blinker fluid, causes the back tire to blow out at 100mph

Sounds like your starter isnt engaging all the way, being a 1987 bike is it the original starter on it as well, possibly missing some teeth and slipping. I would try to replace it.

Damnit! I just changed mine yesterday. Did you use synthetic or regular blinker fluid?

Thats a fairly common occurence on that bike.. Its not oil related. Your starter motor is probably fine, its the starter drive gear and or chain mechanism thats probably damaged..
