New Rider/ Bike!
Hello everyone name is Jeremy aka ~13L4ZN,
I recently bought my first bike 99 Kawasaki Zx7r, havent ridden it yet due to someone not putting it away properly for the winte and now I got a small mess on my hands. Im a newb to the bike scene so be easy on me. I started to do the basics to get the bike from its winter slumber. I drained the gas out added new 93oct from Irving gas station, checked the plugs which seemed to be in good shape, added new coolant, and cleaned the air filter out. He didnt winterize the bike before he stopped riding it, so what am I looking at for damage or what should I do now to get the bike going again? Before he stopped riding it would stall when he came to a stop. But only if he just let the clutch out and coasted down. He also said it wouldnt stall if he down shifted to a complete stop. Now since its been sitting almost 14months he fired it up while it was running he could blip the throttle and it would rev. But since I removed the tank/ gas, checked the plugs, cleaned the air filter out, and sprayed some carb cleaner down into the carbs it wont rev over 1K with out stalling. I havent changed the fuel filter yet or the oil, I have the materials to do it but I have limited time. Ill do it this week but I just wanted to check to see if there is anything else I should be doing. Can anyone help a newb out? I purchased a Manual from Haynes and should arrive by tomorrow or tuesday. TIA for any help.

You may want to try the General or HelpMeFixIt forum for something like that. I'm not sure what to tell ya to be honest on what you should do to get that bike up and going.

Remove the carbs/ clean the jets as old gas turns to a tarnish that will gum up the carbs/jets...Get a factory service manual as they are worth the money.
2nd before you get on the street be sure to buy proper riding gear/helmet, jacket, gloves, boots and take a MSF course..I am getting sic of reading about new riders crashing and being eaten by asphalt..
The jets in the carbs are delicate so be careful when cleaning..

I figured as much, Im going to bring it to a shop and have them clean it for me. He'll explain it to me step by step on how to. As for safety equipment, you dont have to second guess weather this newb is going to wear a helmet, jacket, and gloves. I respect the bike and its speed but thanks for the input.

sounds like u got some carb problems, u might want to get that shop to sync the carbs and perform a full tune up on that bike, also drain that old gas and put some fresh in her, and it will be good to get ur self a manual for the future so u will no how to do these things your self, most shops charge to much for stuff u can do your self with the right tools and knowledge to do so, good luck !

Those carbs need to be pulled apart, jets pulled out & soaked in carb cleaner. A carb sync & fresh gas alone won't cure his clogged jets.

Ive changed teh gas out already and still a no go. The carbs def need to be cleaned. The bike will be dropped off wed at a shop for a over view. He'll go through the basics with me and tell me what I can and cant do by myself. Thanks for the input guys and Ill be checking in to see if there is any New England riders out there who want to go out for a ride.
