Where is the air filter located on the 97 zx9r and whats the easiest way to change it

Its in the airbox under the gas tank. Take off the front seat, and remove the gas tank bolts. Then you will have black plastic box. Remove the screws holding the airbox halves together and take out the filter. Its really not hard to do. I take it you dont have a service manual? I recommend you get one...
