Hi all, I'm Conza, I'm 23, I started riding motorcycles *looks at calendar* 12 days ago, its as good as I've always dreamed. I have driven a manual car for 7 years (inc. learner), and I rode mountain bikes for many years, but the combination of engine and bike is like neither one too familiar.
The story of my bike, main part is (leaving out my brother & dad who are also getting into it at the same time), I bought a Husqvarna SMR 449, which was the best bike on paper for the learner rules in my state, and is a great bike, for an experienced rider, lacking in many ways (suicide stand, no tacho, no neutral light, rough clutch, extremely high seat, poor slow speed turning circle) all of which I could've lived with but it was so hard for me to ride, it wasn't really fun, my future self might look back and go 'if I'd only hung on I could be going faster right now' but I seriously don't care at this point.
So I traded it for a brand new Aprilia RS4 125 - never looking back, MUCH better for me as a learner. Neutral light, adjustable clutch lever, excellent tachometer and the best kick stand I've used (also tested a CBR 250R and learnt on a CBR 125R, and I prefer the Aprilia by far).
Love my new Aprilia, I've already posted pictures about her here, she's red and black (or Racing Black), no modifications, depending on what stats you find online she has about 15-16bhp (11.8KW) weighing at 120kgs dry/135kgs wet (I'm 6 feet and 82kgs, so about 225-230kgs with gear I'm guessing, or about ~500 pounds), and most of the power is up high, in the 7-11k range, and as fast as I've gone (an amazing 65km/h) no sign of lag, and a beuatiful sound too! The digital speedo maxes at 125km/h which is fine by me.
I'm sure when I've learnt more about the bike I'll want more power, but it seems like its only really good for a couple of things A. Higher Top Speed B. (Torque) accelerating in the wrong gear and C. Using 'less' fuel? I've read that larger displacement bikes may use less fuel than smaller bikes, might just be on highways running at lower rpms, but anyway.
I do want to get good enough for track days, competition is a pipe dream, but after I'm confident with the bike I'll probably join a club and be happy to come last for a while.
I've joined this forum in the vague hope of finding other RS4 125 users, plus be part of an online motorcycle community - in a few more posts I might have some things to sell, otherwise I'll just use ebay (treading carefully not to say the items I have).
But also, I'm restricted as a learner, and will have my current bike for (atleast) 1.25 years, assuming I must get rid of it, I love the bike right now, so I may just modify it once the warranty expires, who knows, if it had as much power as a Cagiva Mito for example (33bhp), and be a 4T at this weight that'd the same as a 200kgs bike having ~53bhp, which'd keep me going for many years, surely.
Otherwise, I'll be looking to move up a step in Motorcycles, 500,600,700cc I guess, probably too big of a jump from 125cc to say 1000cc, but I'll see how I go. The only problem with starting with an Italian bike, how can I go to Japanese after this? I do admire Honda and Yamaha, but when I test rode my bike, I had to have 'that' bike, not just that model, but that exact machine, I was the first to ride it, and it bonded with me, on my 2km test ride, if I'm insane, let me know.
Going back to my riding partners, my father rode motorcycles for some years 30 years ago, and he's taken back to it quite easily, he's funding the whole endeavour too which is very kind of him, it was his idea to get back on motorcycles, but only for the track, he and my brother will share another RS4 125, my brother is a bit younger than I am, old enough to get his car probationary licience but hasn't yet, he's still learning in a manual car, so the idea was to have two Huskys (same deal as now with the RS4s), but me being the tallest of the three, I was fine on the Husky, Dad could just make it, and my brother couldn't even touch the ground (he's 5'6"-5'7"), so we were going to lower one of them, but decided to change them entirely.
I'm also a long time MotoGP and Rossi fan, have seen every race since the 2003 season, and 2013 promises to be the best season since 2008 (fingers crossed), and while Rossi hasn't been on form for the last 2 years, they really only sucked because there wasn't any Lorenzo/Stoner battles, one would just overtake the other, and that's it. I will admit that Pedrossa is to be thanked for making this a somewhat good season, he added heaps to it, and he ended with more points than many previous world champions, watch that space next year for sure.
I occassionally fish too, mostly medium size bay fish, (Australian) Salmon, Snapper, Gummy Shark, Elephant Shark, Cowen Young, and the dreaded flat head (small fish, no fight, appear like the plague, often mistaken for the bait still being on the line, even on small gear).
Oh one more thing, if you have an RS4, please post in the sub-forum request thread I made here, if there's atleast one other guy posting there, it might deserve some contemplation by the powers that be
RS4 125 sub-forum?
