Getting a 95 ZX9R and have a 98 Turbo Trans am with a th400 and 9" rear... but back to the bikes...
I am about to buy a 95 ZX9R, 23000 miles for $800...has been laid over twice... some of the plastics are broke by the bolts, but the rest of the bike seems fine as the guy rides it all the time...
Is this a good deal???
I have ridden a 05 GSXR1000 quite alot and love it! I know the ZX9R will be nothing like the GSXR but should still be fun...
Where can i buy new plastics??? can i use different year plasics other than 95 on the bike??
Nebraska, huh?? That's probably about the only place in the world that sucks more than where I live...Michigan.
Anyways...
Agreed on the idea that you'll probably end up spending quite a bit more to get it up and running well.
It's got an aftermarket pipe on it...which means it should have had some carb work done on it. Do you know if it's had it or not?? If the previous owner says it was, but doesn't know much about it, I would assume that it hasn't been done and expect to have to do it.
Other than that, it's a large bike...for your first one it might not be the best bet. Power wise it won't be close that 1000 that you've been riding, but it will probably weigh a bit more, so it will feel quite a bit different.
Personally, I would pass on it. Buying something like that even for a good price a bad way to get really fed up with bikes before you ever really get started. It's also a LOT of bike for a new rider...I would personally look for something around the same age but a bit smaller for maybe a few hundred more. I imagine you could find a late 90s Ninja 500 for around $1k...and it wouldn't require any work and would still be worth $1k in 8 or 9 months when you want to sell it and move up.
By the way, don't go posting stuff about being new and looking at that in the New Rider forums unless you're ready for some serious flaming...this isn't the kind of website where people think it's a great idea to start on SS race bikes...even if they are 15 year old SS race bikes...

I would like to buy a new GSXR but after spending $17k in mods last year on my trans am im a broke ass lmao!
Im gonna buy the bike and run it, im not looking to carve corners and shit, more or a straight line kinda guy!
I think my car would spank the bike in a 1/4 mile!
Im just after a bike that i can go out on and get on it every once in a while... mostly just ride it to work over the summer. Next year im getting a new gsxr....
Whats up guys? New to bikes.... I am ALOT more familiar with LS1's, lol...

thanks guys!
Make the bike naked and sell your Trans-Am and buy a 5.0 notchback
You live in Nebraska? Man, you needed this bike years ago...
If it runs, buy it. But be prepared to spend some extra $ to get it perfect. $700 is a good deal IMO if you are willing to spend the time and possibly work with it.
