Hi guys, just want to introduce myself! I'm a brand new rider from New York. I've always loved motorcycles but never had the time, or motivation, or support to pick it up so I decided that this summer, it's now or never
I took the MSF Course July 10/11 and got my waiver in the mail today which was a very nice surprise because MSF in NY will tell you that it will take at least 4-6 weeks before getting it. It was a good day. All I have to do now is schedule some time off and visit the DMV so I can swap this card w/a real license.
This coming weekend, I'm gonna shop for a bike. I've been checking them out and drooling over them but I'm eyeing me either a used SV650 or Ninja 650R. A lot of riders have raved about how good these bikes are, and how well suited they are for a beginner. Initially I wanted a Ninja 250R 2008 for it's price, weight and ease; but good luck to me finding that.
Thanks guys I've been getting a lot of compliments on the SV lately since the full fairing 07's are very rare If you guys are interested on the other angle shots of my bike, just click the pic. I linked it to my flickr and there are 3 more shots there with the frontside included.
You did excellent. Congrats on passing the msf and extra congrats on picking the SV. I learned on a 2002 SV650s. Bike was rock solid, never a problem. That engine is the same one powering the V-strom. So it's pretty powerful, make no mistake. I mean it, make NO mistake while riding. It'll hurt. Stay focused. And remember that ALL cars, trucks, buses, etc. want to run you over. Get some good gear and ride safe!

Congratz to the new bike. The blue SV looks sweet with full fairings. Ride safe especially if you're gonna do some city riding. NYC is not the best for street riding, but i hear NJ has some nice roads.
Lucky for me, I actually live on the outskirts of NYC in Westchester which is suburban It has nice roads, moderate traffic but very easy to ride in. I've rode in NYC once and the traffic wasn't all that bad, so long as I didn't try anything fancy in between cars -- even on that busy night it felt tamed thought I wouldn't try to do it all the time. I'm usually going on the backroads, the easy going routes and nice, open highways so far.. still trying to work on my cornering skills both at speed and slow speeds. I'm getting better, but yes -- I do ride as safely as I can and I try to avoid situations as best as I can. I also wear my gear... kinda dorky, since I look like robocop on a bike lol but oh well... rather that than a bad case of road rash
welcome my brother, i just registered here aswell, and im from Queens NYC, westchester eh? must be nice there, never ventured out of the 5 boros much...congrats on the sick looking bike, and the MSF, stay safe my brother, hope to see you on the streets!
