Sorry for the massive necro-post.
I'm from Australia and I'm a new rider (hence my forum name hehe). I've been on the road for about 3 months now.
I purchased a 2009 Model Hyo GT250R. It's my first bike and I'm really loving it.
Like most people here, I read A LOT of horror stories to do with Hyosung. However when i delved deeper into most of the stories and asked them questions, most if not all of them related back to one common denominator.....the dealer.
Now, I had the option of two different bikes. The 2008 250 Ninja, or the Hyo GT250R.
I ended up chosing the Hyo mainly due to having no local Yamaha dealer (crazy i know) and the SIZE of the Hyo. Im a big guy, im 6ft 4 and 120kgs. I needed a full frame bike.
To be honest I was going in and buying my Hyo fully expecing a bike that was 'sub-par' and im happy to report that so far, my bike has been nothing but a joy to ride. It's a nice size and it's still got poke for a 250 with a heavy guy on it. I had a very reputable dealer and I think that goes a long way, especially when you read about most of the issues they have, being related to dealer assembly. For new riders (like me), you may be interested to know that most bikes arrive at your dealer in a crate and are then assembled for the show-room. Personally, I didn't realise that.
My only gripes with the bike are its automatic shutoff when the kick-stand is put down (not a feature i like personally), a lack of 6th gear and no kick stand extension. The bike admittedly doesn't have the fine finish that a more 'established' brand has. For example, the nuts on my mirror arms are rusting.
All in all, It's a good bike and excellent bang for buck.
If you're reading this trying to decide if you should get a Hyo after reading the horror stories....well, bad words travel further than good ones.
Lastly, heres a pic or four of my baby:

welcome. with your size i think you would have been better off with the GT650R. It's the perfect starter bike. Good to see at least there is one more Hyo rider out there

Unfortunately here in Australia, we have to start on 250cc bikes, or smaller.
There are exceptions to the rule allowing larger capacity engines, however they must be approved by the government (Learner Approved Motorcycles; or LAMS) and typically ....well, are very slow :p
Thanks for the welcome!

Well considering someone rezzed a 3 year old thread the other day, we still love you
And BTW Our beloved Ninja 250 is a Kawasaki not a yamaha, so hopefully there wasn't a kawi dealer right behind your house lol!
I'm 6'2'' at 215 pounds and I love my Ninjette!!! I had actually really really considered a hyo, but there are no used ones around here, so I had to settle for the Ninja and have never looked back. But having said that, now as I look for a bike to upgrade too I'm drooling over the GT650R. I had wanted GT650Xbut had heard it was not going to be coming out and now that Hyo was bought/sold to another company I'm not sure what the future holds.
Damn glad you love the bike and have fun on itor I'm gonna fly down there and kick your ass!!!

Haha, woops. That's a pretty shocking mistype on my part. I've been drooling over the 2009 model R6's for the last few days, so Yamaha is on my brain. There's a Yamaha dealer here but no Kwakka dealer.

lol no need for violence!
I love every second of being on my bike. In fact the hour it was delivered, I was riding it around, in monsoonal rain. Lovin' it ;)

I'm drooling over the 650gtr. I had wanted 650GTX

you should look at your post too. It's GT650R not 650gtr. I tried the 250 ninja right before i bought my GT650R. Either way we need more people on 2 wheels and less on 4

I just got my bike 08 gt250r. It was 3650 out the door with two brothers exhaust included. It was at a shop that sold KTM bikes and I guess they wanted to see about selling a Hyosung. They did. It was in Costa Mesa. Calif.

Hello everyone Just though that i would chime in and say how much i enjoy my GT250. The thing that i like the most? I'm not a gixer clone hahahaha. don't get me wrong not all GSXR riders are jerks, but almost all jerks ride them. I've had my hyo for over four months now, the 08 model, and i have no complaints. I was wondering if anyone here has heard of there being an aftermarket seat cowl for it though? thank you

Welcome! So, are you a VC local, or a NBVC local?
BTW, Skidmarx was making a cowl, but I haven't checked lately. Here is their site... Motorcycle Bodywork, Screens, Huggers, Fairings, Belly Pans, Mudguards, Undertrays, Accessories
