Denee', who's the prolific writer now? I guess that's what a Hyosung does to you
When you say that you had to reach for the bars is that just due to your height? Would it be less "funny feeling" for a taller ride? (Robert, did you notice this?)
The two mademoiselles definitely have the same beauty genes as you All you need is a picture of the three of you in that yellow riding suit a la Charlie's Angels
Robert - have you seen any upgraded brake lines available in the US yet? One thing that concerns me, as I've asked about, is the highway capabilities. You mentioned that you cruise at 80mph (indicated) at ~8400rpm with a 10,000 redline. Is there much engine left above the 8400 mark? What's the top cruising speed you've had? I want to commute with the bike and I ride at least 60 miles a day, mainly on highways where traffic regularly flows at 80mph. Thanks again for any and all help!
I need to find out if the "local" (~80 miles away) dealer has any 250s in stock so I can test drive it.
I have very long arms and legs! lol I'm 5'9" @ 145lbs. I think it was mainly the gas tank that kind of interferred. It's not that bad! Everyone is so different. You really have to check it out and see if is for you. I can tell you all day what I think, ultimately it's what you think!
If you'd like to talk, I can call you. Just pm me with your number(unless your out of the state).
Greg, you may have the yellow. It's a beautiful color!!
or anyone is welcome to email me at: Anocsunamoon@aol.com
Remember~ shop!! Have fun! but shop around. some of the fun is checking bikes out and meeting people!
Great lookin' girls there Denee', it's definitely in the genes. WHOA, look out mom!!!
Denee', ask your dealer if the bike you're interested in has the adjustable rear damper. I'm not sure when they made the change, but my info is late in the '06 model year. If the bike has it, they can drop the spring pre-load, making the ride much smoother and more comfortable. I know what you mean about back-pain, as I deal with a herniated disc!!!! Our roads are horrendous, with frost heaves and pot-holes galore, but with the pre-load set in the proper position I've been "sitting pretty", so to speak.
Braking wise, I also concur. The brakes do an effective job for the learner, but you aren't going to be doing a nose-stand on 'em. There are a number of brake pad upgrades available, and there is an HEL braided-line set for the bike. The pad swap alone will have you outbraking the competition. Both of 'em together will have you standin' 'er on the front wheel in no time!!!
For the exhaust, I've been thinking of installing an IXIL canister on mine. I know it won't make a big difference, beyond the sound, but the "sound-effects" are a big enough part of riding to make it worth it. The 650cc model's exhaust can is interchangable with the Kawasaki ZX-6R '98-'02 models. You'd be amazed at just what's available out there that'll fit.
To the riding position, I've had no issues beyond having to become acustomed to the "sportbike" riding stance. Since I became used to this, I've had no comfort problems, and I do two hour stints in the saddle without any discomfort. For me, the bars are well positioned, and I find that I am generally balanced over the saddle with very little muscle-tension in my arms.
The bike won't have any problem with a highway commute. The bike is turning over between 8300 and 8400 at an indicated 80mph, with a 10,500rpm redline. While cruising at 80mph, the bike responds well, and will pull away easily as it doesn't reach peak HP until 10,000rpm. The motorcycle pulls well, all the way to the top speed, when it finally hits an aerodynamic "wall". The engine's redline doesn't really interfere with accessing the power as there isn't a rev-limiter on the engine. One note of interest is that the engine's bottom-end is much like a two-stroke, with roller-bearing mains and rods!!!
In fact the only change that I'd say is a must, is replacing the factory headlamp bulbs as they're woefully ineffective. Realistically, this is only a must if you're like me, and enjoy riding at night. If this is the worst of it, at this price, I consider it a steal.
I think I covered it all!!! If not, just ask. As always, Cheers!

i know this thread is super old, but i like the bike! i almost got a 650R before finding my F3, the dealer that sells the bikes is only about 20 minutes from where I live, but they do sell them under a different name, its something like United Motors of America. He told me that it was the exact same company as Hyosung, but they had just ordered the bikes and really didn't know too much about them, which is what made me go away and find something else.

We will miss you.
HI CBRAWR! Which bike were you looking at? 250 or 650? This thread, though "old" and recent, contains great info and first hand experience about the 250r graciously written by the infamous Robert S. Hunter! He's the most experienced in the Hyosung GT250r as he owns one! You may want to go back to the beginning of this thread and read the story(if you hadn't done so already). What would you like to know my dear?
denee'
Thank you Robert! I'm not too concerned about my girls(so far). They're both sweet, caring, silly, and I love 'em to death!
I'm not finished with the hyosung thing. I just want to take my girls, or at least my youngest and let her sit on it to see if she fits! lol She has long legs and arms like me, so she may fit. But will she like it and want to ride it vs. the chinese street/trail bikes? Well, got to go now. I'll be back later, going to Huntville to see about getting my oldest an apartment at college! ching ching! lol
HAHAHA!!! Thanks, Denee'! I feel as though I've reach a new mile-stone in life. Eat your hearts out world, I've bypassed "famous", and gone straight to "infamous"! Now I suppose I'm going to need to go out and buy one of those big curtains the "Wizard of Oz" hid out behind!!!
I'm surprised you haven't had to start worrying about your girls, yet. The only reasons I can begin to imagine are, the guys are either too obsessed with their "Playstations" (twerps), or the air pollution has managed to start causing blindness!!! My suggestion, nothing beats a well placed baseball bat!!! Sweet, caring, and silly.........characteristics that oughta' be higher on people's priority list, in my book.
When you go back to your dealer, take a look at where they've got the rear-sets placed. If the fit isn't "just right" as it sits, remember there's another three possible positions available. Have 'em adjust the spring pre-load to suit you or your daughter, as well. As I posted earlier, that's the one adjustment I've done to the bike from it's "as delivered" settings, and it made an amazing difference!!! Also, ensure the dealer has set the tire pressures properly, as this will have a significant impact.

im liking the naked "streetfighter" bike wonder wats the cc for that one when its official hmm...
It's going to be a 650. There's no news as to whether it'll debut with the upcoming fuel-injection system. As Hyosung has a history of making a design available in different displacements, I wouldn't be surprised to see it available in a 250cc version as well, or perhaps the 1000cc V-twin that's also due soon. If you check out the left-side pic of the blue, silver, and white GT-R in post #130, you'll see the GT 650X "street-fighter". This shows the left side, looking from behind, and gives an excellent view of the sculpted lines of the bike. The tank, saddle, and tail-piece appear to be identical to what is on my 250R!!!

Its just not fair that you can get the 250 in yellow and not the 650...
My info is that for '07 both the 250R and 650R, are available strictly in red or black for solid colors. Then you also have the choice of the two graphics packages, which are color specific.
Have you had a look at the GT 650S model? I think this is a beautiful bike, it's a GT-R without the side panels. The GT 650S is available in three solid colors, these being red, yellow, and silver. This is the model I've thought might make a good second bike, when I'm ready for another. I see potential as a great "sport-tourer", with the accent on "sport"!!! A silver one, with black luggage, would be a very sharp looking package...........

if the 650S is the same bike as the 650R I wonder if its possible to swap the plastics to make a yellow and black bike. Now that would be schweet
I don't think it would be that big of a job, based on the info I've collected. I've got a file that has "exploded" views of all the parts on the bikes, and everything appears to be the same. You would need the two-halves of the upper-fairing, the right side access panel, a fuel tank, and the two-halves of the tail-section. Off hand, I'd say that would cover it.
Of course, you could just pull off all the body-work, and get a respray in the exact shade you like!!! It might make a nice off-season project. Then you'd have a "rare" example, of a "rare" bike. Talk about exclusive!!!

I am in on picking up the GT650R. My 18 yr old kid is all over me. lol
We're going black on paint and he SHOULD have it by the end of next week.
Both the red and black look tits! (sorry! lol) Nice stacked headlight styling.
Hyosung is blowing out the '05's for $3999 through the end of Nov!
Gotta love that!
Still, I wonder about the bike in the long term. Time will tell.
On the seating. I feel the bike is a bike you sit in and not on. To me that is good. Ya kinda hug the tank without feeling like your lying down.
My dealer has offered a test ride, but my kid just wants one anyhow lol.
I will test ride it.
Same Aprilia/Moto Guzzi/Hyosung partnership here. Very strange, but boutique shops have to keep above water too.
I'm sure I will help my boy break-in his bike lol.
I, and maybe he, will give a ride report soon.
Its good to see you have an Aprilia background Denee', as they are the REAL exotic bike. I have two myself-hats off to you.
Ciao
